President Trump

No black man will ever be allowed but a dark skinned self acclaimed black man with African heritage is fine. Makes sense.
He's actually not a self acclaimed black man. The white population in the United States created the one drop rule as a way to keep their us vs them narrative going (white purity and all that), the black community accepted these "impure white men rejects" and their numbers increased along with their political and economic power, when the white men who created this rule noticed this, they decided to reinvent the narrative once again and tried to create a middle group in the American census system but these "impure rejects" clearly saw through the deception of the white men who created the one drop rule and said "no thanks, we are black and we are staying with the group that accepted us", which is why you now have conservative media trying to redefine the once white rejects as a third middle group, they tried to play the same card against Kamala Harris, it's basically a numbers game to further cut down the little political power that the black community in America are clinging to.

At some point, someone in this administration has to ask "How the fuck did we get so stupid?" It's like a group of goofyy kids in school thinking they are the cool kids because they have all eyes on them, we are looking at you alright but it's for all the wrong reasons.
In fairness, that tweet is correct. Freedom seeds are veritably American. Wonder how many innocent children will be claimed by "freedom seeds" this year?

I'd be amazed.

They're all freaks or nonentities who wouldn't have the slightest chance of power under anyone else.

That's *why* Trump put them their - they owe their position entirely to him.
Agreed - but I was thinking more about lower-level Republicans, maybe.

Having said that, those deluded tossers in his pocket at the moment probably don't realise that they're not up to it, despite it being obvious to the non-MAGA world? Just desperate for some dissent to emerge, from anywhere.

I think you will find that that link says exactly what I posted earlier on, they are not self acclaimed. The system defined them until that system realized that their obsession with their concept of racial purity has backfired.

"Mulatto was used as an official census racial category in the United States, to acknowledge multiracial persons, until 1930.[116] (In the early 20th century, several southern states had adopted the one-drop rule as law, and southern Congressmen pressed the US Census Bureau to drop the mulatto category: they wanted all persons to be classified as "black" or "white"."

There used to be a mixed race category but white America did not want that. Look up the categories on the American census sheet today, you would not find a category for mixed race. The conservative base in America are not interested in giving mixed people an actual group or a voice of their own and they aren't interested in accepting them into their "pure white class", they only want to create that division between who is black and who is mixed as a way to reduce the black political advantage in the United States.

There was a class for mixed people in the previous census up until 1930 when the American government adopted the one drop rule that started in Arkansas and took that category out of the census, basically drawing a line on the same and reinforcing the US vs the, narrative, in true white American fashion they shot themselves on the foot and are now pretending to play on the intelligence of the rejected class by telling them they are not black, well if they are not black then what are they? Your census categories say otherwise, your citizens classifications says otherwise, so what are they then?

He was mixed race. There is a difference and to me, America will not vote for an African American born from two African Americans parents.
Goalposts moved a bit there.
Just your definition of black won’t happen then, as opposed to the definition used in the USA and most other western countries.
The U.S. racial or ethnic classification "black" refers to people with all possible kinds of skin pigmentation, from the darkest through to the very lightest skin colors, including albinos, if they are believed by others to have African ancestry (in any discernible percentage). There are also certain cultural traits associated with being "African American", a term used effectively as a synonym for "black person" within the United States.

Donald holds all the cards. The ace is law and order. By Summer he will start to use it. The US of A has reached tipping point, they just don't realise it yet.
Erdoğan started by dreaming up a mythical Coup, and he has played a good hand since.

The rise of the patriots.

One thing I keep hearing Trump supporters parrot (even as they get laid off) is that we are going to have short term pain for long term gain without any ability to explain what makes such a thing possible.

It is purely based on their faith in him that he's gonna make them rich...somehow. A few MAGA's I know just dismiss it as Trump having fun or trolling, as if being an asshole doesn't have tangible costs.

When I try to explain that Canadians and Europeans hate America now and it's going to cost us money they simply don't believe it.

People have very long memories if you go out of your way to piss them off! That's what MAGA and Trump have done with Ukraine, with Gaza, with Canada, with Mexico, with Greenland, with tariffs on allies and trading partners.

This will not be over quickly.

Ultimately this tariff war may doom the American economy and it's overseas power.. which depends on large military spending.. which comes from taxation of mega cap companies and it's high paid individuals.

You can't tax the companies if people don't want to buy their stuff and they don't have any profits. I don't think the White House and its cronies are even remotely aware of how big the situation is and how badly it can and will snowball from here.

Surprisingly even if Trump backtracks his tariffs now, I think the damage is done.. the Boycott American Goods movement is here to stay and the economic figures need massive recalculating by the economists.

Not that they're ever going to show us the true figures anyways based on what happened during COVID since it made them look bad!

What he does, has real consequences. I love visiting America. It is my main holiday destination.

I was booking for Vegas (lads trip) soon and Florida (family trip) next year, with maybe a short visit to Nebraska this year as well. All off now.
Not a big deal, i'm sure America will do fine without my money.

The problem for America is i'm not on my own. You only have to click on the chats in adverts on Facebook with anything to do with American holidays. Mostly negative, and i'm definitely not on my own in avoiding the US for now.

I've already been seeing chatter about US companies losing out on contracts to Europe, South America, and China because of trade unpredictability. Basically if an alternative exists from a non-insane country that option gets picked even if it costs a little more in transport.

MAGA doesn't understand this: Trade Boycotts work because the customer is always right and they vote with their wallets.

FFS there was a time you guys would say "The Sun never sets on the British Empire" but the colonies got smart and realized their economic power and how they were giving it away by buying foreign goods.

Once they started boycotting UK goods.. you lost all your income and couldn't even afford your navy and army to keep the empire in check and the empire fell away one by one.. not militarily but by an economic boycott!

I agree, Lads trip has been switched to Tenerife, many families not going on dream trip to Florida, think it will hit tourist economy hard.
Canadians, British, Germans , Scandinavians will go in much lower numbers.

The only thing I directly consume from the US is entertainment based and isn’t affected by tariffs. I buy some clothing but this can always be sourced in Japan. The food and drink are substandard. I’m struggling to think of any other market that they provide a product in that I couldn’t get elsewhere. I’ve visited multiple times even been for a couple of weekends just for gigs. Won’t be going back for a while. Might look at Japan for my adventures from now on.

That’s a very odd take on the Empire’s sunset.

We have cancelled our planned trip in May. I will spend my money elsewhere. We will probably go somewhere in Asia instead.
