Fucking hell - genuinely every day is a school day.

Regularly listen to his short back catalogue and watched the odd documentary on him, penny never dropped that he was only 27!?!

He was heavily into smack, said to have been at least partly self medicating some kind of chronic back or stomach pain issue. If I remember correctly, toxicology suggested he was so massively od'd at the time of his death its unclear whether he'd have been able to hold a gun, never mind shoot himself with it. The early Internet was awash with conspiracy theories. It probably still is.
