Dispatches/Sunday Times investigation: Russell Brand accused of rape and sexual assault

Obviously not a fan of his but I find it fascinating that in a relatively short space of time he went from having a burgeoning Hollywood career to becoming a conspiracy theorist and religous fanatic. Was he deliberately building a conspiracy theory around himself?

Just reading through some of the comments under the news video of this story on YouTube...full of conspiracy theorists supporting Brand. The usual bullshit...he's only getting arrested because: "he knows too much about British politics" "He knows too much about American politics". "He speaks the truth".....

That's the one major downside of the internet. Lies can be perpetuated globally and unchecked at close to the speed of light.

He also has a presence on the video platform, Rumble, where he hosts weekly live shows to his 1.4 million followers. He earned a great deal with his career change, thanks to YouTube's option to monetise videos. He's worth an estimated £16million, according to wealth website Celebrity Net Worth.

YouTube experts claimed he makes around $61,000 (£49,250) a month from his YouTube channel and another $100,000 (£80,700) a month from his paid subscriptions to his podcast and merchandise.

The chief executive of social media analysis agency CORQ, Sara McCorquodale, said to The Guardian of his online income: "He is most likely making £2,000 to £4,000 per video, not taking into account any affiliate deals and brand sponsorships that might be running in the background." As a result, the demonetisation of Brand’s YouTube account is likely to have a significant impact on his earning potential.

Based on five videos a week and the hundreds of thousands of views he gets per video, he could be earning up to £1million a year from the channel. Brand also has a subscription option on the online community platform, Locals, where fans can sign up for a minimum of $60 (£48) a year in order to gain special content from him as well as get the opportunity to interact with him directly.

Still not as much as he could have earned as an actor.

Or a touring standup tbh. He was one of the biggest acts in the country. Like him or not, he could easily sell out every arena in the country multiple times, and he had a decent profile in America too.

But yeah, it seems to be a well-trodden path for someone who has been ostracised from society for whatever reason to go down the conspiracy grift path. It's a way of getting an audience, I guess, when the mainstream has abandoned you.

More like he turned his back on the mainstream when he dived headfirst down every conspiracy rabbit hole he could find.

I reckon he was already struggling to get booked on stuff at that point. His behaviour has apparently been a fairly open secret in the industry. I remember Katherine Ryan even calling him out on a Comedy Central programme to his face.
