United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

As everyone else has said, it was absolutely dire. For a team trying to qualify for the CL playing away at a team who are struggling for confidence and form it was a really poor effort. I know Derby Day is different, but we went onto the pitch to conserve energy and try not to lose the game.

I cannot think of a single positive from that game. It was completely boring and all we learned - again - was that if you play old men in midfield they can't run the game. If Nunes is MOTM then you know it's been a dreadful game, and he was MOTM.

The season is heading for a real write off and as much as I love Pep, some very difficult questions need to be asked about the season as a whole, not just today. I honestly think he's just given up and maybe with the injuries he's thrown a wobbly. He just does not seem to be trying anything at all. He does not seem to be able to get anything from these players, has no idea on how to improve anything and has no idea on how to change tactics. We are constantly relying on players who frankly aren't good enough or fast enough to play in this league. I bet Casemiro was made up to see our team sheet.

A good, focussed manager might accept we are going to struggle this season. However, surely they would be planning and building for next year. Playing Bernardo, KdB, Gundogan, Kovacic etc teaches us nothing. Playing intensely slowly every game is still leading to injuries and all we learn is that it's not working. Quite simply, he has to show that he has the desire, hunger and determination for next season otherwise the unthinkable has to happen. If we play like this next season, we will be midtable.

Maybe I am overreacting, but that game today was dreadful, and it summed up the entire season.
Yeah nail on head. All the MASSIVE blues wont hear a word against pep and the team but nobody is beyond reproach.
Pep is picking utter risk free teams, sideway pass after sideways pass. Just dont lose possession and its BORING!!!

Grealish has a great game midweek, then drops him for the geriatric trio.

I agree, i think a change is needed all the way through the club.
New DOF, hes in, new coach, total refresh of the squad

There… i said it

I'll weigh in - although doubt it'll be much different to anyone else.
What a shit show that was - if we're going there looking for a point, against that team, things need to change dramatically.
I'm not calling for Pep to leave - but this season his heads just not been right, and today's selection was criminal in the extreme. He looks at what we've got against an inferior opposition and goes for slow, slow and slower with zero creativity.
Criminal that we've LET them have 4 points across 2 games - must have thought he was playing a prime Whiskey Nose team

That’s one of the most gutless performances under Pep. I’ve never seen us give the ball away so many times in a game and set so many opposition attacks off in the process. Worrying that we’ve spent £200m and appear to be worse.

Wtf has happened to Foden? He shouldn’t have thought twice about that chance. Foot straight through it and it goes in.

A good team would’ve destroyed us today.
I thought that. Foden didn't the touch. Just hit it. Also, a good team wouldn't have used a low block against us.

So who do you play...Gonzales cant cover 3 players.....

Savihno aint the answer at present...he is skillful and a good player but he aint exactly ripping up trees...we only notice him as the rest of the team are so poor...he aint even close to how good Sane was for instance in his first season....or sterling
Look what happened when Doku came on...they got more chances on that side of the pitch than the rest of the game.

So if we aint playing KDB, GUndo Kova and Bernardo who do we play

what is your midfield for that game

Mine would have been:

GK
Back 4 (the only change here is I would have played Khusonov at right back )
Nico Bernardo

Marmoush

But after that we are starting to look at 3 groups of players....
1. KDB, Gundo, Kova - everyone knows they aint good enough anymore
or
2. Sav, Doku and Grealish -the first two are ok but are high risk players who so far we are being generous about with their overall contribution..Grealish has been shit for 18 months - people still believing he is the answer are just blind and are unable to admit the club made a mistake in buying him
3. foden - clearly has issues and aint playing well

So who?
That midfield should never have been picked today. There were better options on the bench. Kova is a solid unspectacular player and combining him with Kev and Gundo who basically can’t compete at this level was madness. Bernie tried but his race is nearly run too I think

A toothless performance and the worst derby since the last one!

Not many highlights but I thought Dias was brilliant, especially after getting that early booking. Bernardo and Nunes were good and Eddie stepped up when we needed him in the second half.

We had a couple of chances but hate to say it, they looked the more likely winners.

That was a hard watch though and we need to make some big changes moving forward.

Pep did what many of us have wanted him to do over the years and that's be pragmatic.

A useful point for City. Win our home games and draw away. That will be good enough.

I do wonder though how we are going to break Palace down. We can't start KDB and Gundogan again.
What?? We wanted him to be pragmatic against teams of MUCH higher quality than that - the likes of Real Madid, PSG and Bayern
What we wanted today was a display of passion and intent against a team we should be beating 9 out of 10 currently - they're shit sir!
Not a useful point - 2 dropped if we hope to scrape top 5, which looks less promising after today

If that was a game played in the 80’s or 90’s we all would have been delighted but this is the worst rags side in decades. Embarrassing that we played for a draw, £30 and a few hours of my life I won’t get back. Kova, Gundo, Silva and KDB should never start another game together. Too old, not enough legs. They have been fabulous players but their race is run unfortunately. Next season will be another hard slog trying to bed in the five or six players we desperately need. Top 5 will be tough but I still th8ng we will do it, just! Oh and the rags are total garbage who don’t appear to have improved under this new manager.

We've defined ourselves on how we press the opposition over the last few years and that is what is lacking the most this year. Too many times do we lose the second ball as well. Just far too slow.
I thought our defence did well on the whole today, Nico did well for 65 mins but felt the pace in the second half. As we all know the downfall is in the midfield. Slightly concerning how he's not trusting Gonzales in these big games too. We need some real energy and quality on the ball next year.

Just been on you tube and found a rag after match video
Webby and O'Neil?
There's 2 of them
1 old guy and 1 younger
The old 1 said its the worst City side
He's seen in 15 years
Talk about Red Selective Memory.
That old fart isn't capable of remembering the 6-3 or all the other batterings handed out to them
They really are as a collective
Thick as pigshit

Trouble is, he's bang on mate. Pep has always given them far too much respect and today it was, frankly, embarrassing.

Disagree. Omar is better than Jesus and Alvarez who both won lots with us.

So your opinion is, he's a better back up player than Alvarez and Jesus were? Well we can have that debate.

But is sounds like you agree though, that his role can only be as back up which is my point.

Back up yes, a regular first choice starter, and winning leagues. No chance, just can't see it.
