United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I can’t mate.

I need to know. I don’t want to make the same mistake again.
I’ll make it simple for you!
Come to the bar, I’ll buy you 6 pints, but only let you have One, I’ll leave it to you to figure out how many I’ve taken away from you…

Understand that, but 4 in a row and strengthening the obvious areas needing it were not mutually exclusive.
Why not both?

My blind optimism can still see us pulling through, but at the risk of being cyber-attacked I'd suggest that Liverpool and United fans of the early 90s and post-Ferguson eras respectively probably also assumed that they were merely going through a 'blip'.

Liverpool didn't win a title for another 30 years (which would have been inconceivable at the time) whilst United are still crap a dozen years later, obviously.

The difference between adding players now is that they can't just be adopted into a winning machine, with the 'golden nucleus' still in place, but instead are joining players with no obvious team identity, and seemingly no continuity in coaching either, from what we've seen on the pitch this season. It feels more like starting from scratch.

I still think we have to give Pep another season, because he is what gave us that air of superiority - our USP if you like - and to get rid of him now would risk us becoming just another one of those teams that used to be dominant (AC Milan, Juventus, Man United etc).

But I'm not taking anything for granted next year (and I still wish we'd been overlooked for CWC :-( )
Absolutely not mutually exclusive, but say a couple left after the treble that are due to leave now, with some replacements then the 4 in a row might have been a stretch during a rebuild. It might not, we will never know. All we know is we didn't start the rebuild when it was probably due, got the 4 in a row and we now have an almighty rebuild on our hands that will take next year as well in my opinion.

Spot on.

Too much negativity on here about our display. If Phil puts that relatively easy chance away where he should have hit it first time 12 yards out and we win 1-0 it’s the consummate away performance and everyone’s cock a hoop.

We’re not the all conquering dream team of years gone by and we should rate how well we’ve played based on our current level. On that basis it’s fair to say that it was a good hard earned point from a very tricky away fixture without our top scorer and far and away our best player.
Delusional.

I don't mind the fall off after four in a row, but I'm pissed off with watching the team give away leads to lose or draw, I'm pissed off with opposition goals coming directly from our mistakes (usually unforced) rather than their own good play, and I'm even more pissed off with having to watch three wingers, one playing as a full back, after watching Sane, Mahrez and Sterling all of whom could score and assist.
I accept part of the problem is the lack of rest many players have had over the past four years and the injuries we are plagued with. But if the injuries are partly because of the schedule then we need to scrap the small squad system as it's unsustainable.
I'm also pissed off that we have to ignore the weaknesses of Savinho and Doku because they are young. We've an academy full of youngsters who don't get a chance because of their age.
And the final reason for being pissed off is the lack of pace. Time after time we see teams get up the pitch quickly by-passing our midfield. I'm not calling for route one football, though it's acceptable as an occasional tactic, but we make it too easy for teams to get ten behind the ball.

You have just been called delusional but they are wrong. You are fucking mental

He has also said on a number of occasions that City dropping out of the CL won't do us that much harm and that its happened to other clubs and they came back. Well apart from the Rags so far. Which is all well and good and I don't think City fans feel we have a divine right to be in the CL every season but this softening the blow before it happens does us no favours. We are throwing away easy games and not punishing crap teams like Leicester at home with more goals not only for the goal difference but for our own confidence. And it's being explained away with a season out won't be such a bad thing.
As long as all the world-class players you're trying to attract are happy playing on Thursday night...

6th now after that utter shit show at the swamp . Wenger trophy days here we are ffs

At one point Kev won the ball in the middle and drove forward, Marmoush was close to the left of Kevin and beeded to make a run into space for the pass. Instead he slowed down and Kevin ran ahead of him and had nobody to pass to and lost the ball. De Bruyne is obviously not the player he was but without runners ahead of him what is he supposed to do.
Said the same thing at the time, all Marmoush had to do was sprint to Kevs left yet he slowed down, bizarre!!!

Mahrez got a fair bit of stick as well as praise...but looking back, he was a world beater with us..intelligent, great technique and touch....occasionally he was a bit of a fanny but he's light years ahead of what we have now..sadly
I would say his goals and assists are way ahead of Doku and Savinho. Still many on here were critical of his performances and few lamented his departure.
