Where? Instead of whom? He’s moving into midfield when able, but he doesn’t get close to the team if he doesn’t cover at LB and love forward from there.
Instead of anybody in midfield. We need some young fresh legs in there and he has proved himself to be a competent player. Dads Army are not cutting it

I think the best thing is Pep is showing faith in him. Has he had good games at left back? Sure. Is he a left back, clearly not.

Get through this disaster of a season, have some outgoings in the summer and I think then we will see Nico in the middle.

Exactly, which when coupled with getting caught on the wrong side of the ball on multiple United possessions, became an increasing liability.

I’d rather have the best players for the occasion…regardless of age, race, haircut, tattoos, or quality of WAG. The end.
That's the point though - he gets into the team on current form. De Bruyne, Foden, Gundogan, Bernardo simply don't.

Can you point to a midfield performance that suggests that???

He’s getting into the team because he can TRANSITION into midfield, but has LB responsibilities.

No LB responsibilities, no game…just like Nunes!!

Don’t forget, he’s a young kid trying to break into a midfield with some of the best players in the world! Give him time.

Will be brilliant seeing him in Chelsea’s team next season ;)
While we rebuild around Gundo, Bernardo, Kovacic and Lewis.

(Just joshing…I think.)

We need to have some common sense as a football club with this guy and HOLD ONTO HIM
Here’s hoping the new DoF will bring a really positive attitude to youth development, be assertive, and not allow good uns to be under-utilised.

Amended.

Hes too talented on the ball not to be played further forward where he can do some damage.
Not really. He is no more talented than Barca's current left back.

And there are no rules that says a left back has to be bereft of technical skills. He is talented. But not 'too' talented.

Agreed. Different world though playing in the centre of the pitch with everything going on all around you. He's used to that at a youth level, but I have no idea if he has the awareness or the sureness of touch to cope in amongst that.

He's doing well enough for now though being an option on the left.

Unnecessary edit. Sergio is long past his prime, but will always be world class, just like David Silva, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne…

Yes, this season has been a bridge too far to include them all in the same team at once, as I discussed regarding the midfield against United. However, Nico was never going to be the person to replace Kova (Gonzales) or Gundo (Grealish) or Bernardo (Doku/Savinho) or even KDB (McAteer) in that team.

He plays because he can fill in at LB. The end. For now.

My point being that the current midfield of KDB,Gundo and Silva were world class at one time and yes they will always be remembered in that capacity but Nico deserves a chance now, given more minutes in that midfield, as he`s proven to be one of the most consistent players at the moment.Something that you cant say those current three are, nor have been this season.

He’s been fairly consistent AT RIGHT BACK, not taking the place of an established midfielder. Take a midfielder out of the equation and all of a sudden the load looks distinctly heavier.

I think you`ll find that Nico O. has been playing more of a left back than a right back ;(
