US Tariff War

Absolutely brilliant dissection, more vivisection, of Trump, his ideas, his minions and the cult of personality that is destroying world markets.

Once the level of distrust in the belief that America would be a strong military ally going forward hit peak “douchebaggery,” Trump doubled down and told the world, “That’s nothing, watch this!” and overnight we became the worst trade partner in the world!

Too bad the Republicans in Congress are so scared shitless of being primaried by a Trumper to the Right of the Eight Wing nut jobs already sucking his dick, or this might be 25th Amendment type material!

He has invoked special emergency powers that were absolutely not needed and are supposed to be run by Congress, and he has wiped $6.6T off the wealth of the companies and poor Americans who were saving for their retirement…esp since he also wants to get rid of Social security and Medicare/Medicaid!

Quite a lot of the speechifying - almost everything Leavitt says, to start with - suggest that Verhoeven's satire in Starship Troopers has been taken as the correct way to behave. It's all amazingly gung-ho with delusions of invincibility as if they can't lose.

Of course, Starship Troopers was essentially a military dictatorship who subverted people's minds.

My understanding is that the percentage tariff is simply a percentage on imports that evens up the cheaper import to the same price as if produced in USA.
I wonder what impact this idea would have if the high price of Labour in car plants in Detroit area was insisted on in the Southern US plants?
I suggest h Mr T starts at home with his fairness.
Secondly if the tariff on goods is happening because of fairness why is there no balancing tariff on the servicing industry built around social media etc which shows a plus of over 280 billion dollars in favour of USA?

That is a significant deep dive into the issue, which appears to be much simpler and more straightforward…

She is a dumb parrot with mild good looks to shovel the middle aged conservative eunuch’s the kind of bullshit they can swallow.

The rest of us are in on the joke!

That’s not it!

The formula is bullshit, made up, and NOTHING TO DO WITH TARIFFS!!

Trump thinks that all countries should have an equal import-export balance with the U.S.

If we buy $100Bn of goods from you, you should buy $100bn from us. It’s that simple and stupid!

He put a huge tariff on Lesotho! We import Levi jeans from there, but they don’t need any expensive shit America builds, so…TARIFF!!

Lesotho: “Err, OK, then we will ship the jeans somewhere else, you won’t get cheap jeans (or they will have a fat tariff on them that must be paid by the American Importer) and you can go fuck yourself and your newly created inflation!” And that might be exactly what Levis does with the jeans that are made there to avoid the added TAX!

Btw, ignore that these trade imbalances are what fuel the desire for dollar denominated purchases elsewhere and help keep both the Treasury Market as liquid as it is, and the Dollar as the world’s reserve currency!

Thanks for your kind words. I will do my best to fully understand your interpretation before I put pen to paper again.

I am surprised Mr T did not simply use your version but I used a bbc experts view.

Then the BBC “Expert” needs to look again.

It is simply an import-export formula, and then for some unknown reason he divided it by 2!

Sensing your sarcasm, don’t take my word for it…

Perplexity (AI search)

The Trump tariff formula, as explained by experts, involves a straightforward calculation based on the U.S. trade deficit with each country.

The formula divides the trade deficit by the total imports from that country, then halves the result to determine the tariff rate.

For example, if the U.S. has a $295 billion trade deficit with China and imports $440 billion in goods, the calculation yields a 67% rate, which is halved to 34%.

Critics argue that this method is flawed, as it oversimplifies complex trade dynamics and misrepresents global trade economics.

The American Enterprise Institute noted that the formula exaggerates tariffs assumed to be imposed by foreign nations.

Not sure I use sarcasm but I certainly have no intention of trading words in an impolite way with you or anyone else on this forum.
Thanks for your further AI results and as posted earlier I hope to learn from it's content.

I do fear for the less well off over there

The BBC expert,if it’s the one on the BBC web site, was explaining Trumps tariff and Trumps reasoning and formula. @SilverFox2 has misunderstood the experts explantion of Trump's reasoning as an explanation of what a Tariff actually is.

We should all stop buying dollars that would really fuck them up if the world stopped trading there currency

I don’t think I wrote anything impolite to you, which is why I thought you were being sarcastic and giving me the hump.

Billionaire Elon Musk asked Donald Trump directly to reverse his tariffs over the weekend, according to the Washington Post.

Citing two sources, the news outlet said the exchange marks the highest profile disagreement between the Tesla CEO and US president.

Musk's pleas followed Trump's unveiling of a 10% baseline tariff on all imports to the US and higher duties on dozens of other countries last week.
This is where it will start to go wrong and about time

As a safe haven paying 4%, that’s a tough call. What else are you going to do with your dollars? That’s the genius of running trade deficits…highly liquid global currency that you know (feel) is a safe haven!

As spies will tell you, a $100 bill can get you out of a lot of trouble overseas. Everyone knows what it is and what it is worth!

Many thanks for your post.

In all probability you are correct. Apologies to all if that is the case, however the absence of the services charges to balance up any physical goods exchanged does seem to lack fairness, or is that incorrect?

Thanks for the more intelligent way of looking at it.
But I don't think we would have to do it for long just drag the fuckers down a few rungs

Donald Trump is now speaking about his sweeping tariffs and says the US will take $2bn a day from tariffs.

The US president made the comment without providing details.

The reason I have never bought a Dyson product - I was fearful it would make me turn to beastiality - ffs these people are fucking beyond help

Good to see EU offering zero for zero tarrifs - a deal we all thought was only possible for EU members. Well done EU.

Take $2bn from who?
Isn’t it US importers who pay the tariffs?
Then passed on eventually to the US consumer.
