Massive Rebuild Next Summer - Rate Our Side

This is going to be a major rebuild with no overnight fix of the success we have experienced.
Players who will be told no longer needed at the club injury prone or past it Grealish ,Walker,Stones ,one of Ake or Akanji ,Gundogan.phillips.
Players who will want to move on for a payday or due to frustration Ederson , Kovacic ,Silva ,Grealish ,Nunes, Mcatee.

In 2008 we finished 9th. This season we are 6th and that's without Rodri. We also sold Alvarez and his replacement in waiting broke his leg before a ball was kicked in anger. Then Foden's form collapsed and central defenders went down like clockwork. We are still without Stones, Akanji and Ake.

We brought players in in January. I think Khusanov, Reis and Marmoush look good but the jury is out on Nico. I haven't seen him do anything yet.

I think we need a right back and attacking midfielder as a minimum.
The corresponding table positions after 31 game going back to 9/10 season do not lie mate. Even more, it is look & feel when watching them every single bloody game, it all screams pre-takeover hotchpotch City team. Randomly letting go of the 1st tier players and getting in the players that are 2nd tier at best, it all worked beautifully until it did not.

Think we'll finish top 4,and possibly a cup , but either way you can't say 'it worked until it did not ',until maybe this time next year. There are multiple reasons for this season but if this time we are challenging again which personally I think we will be then it hasn't not worked.

Put this in the squad planning thread. Might as well move it here.

Ederson
[Trafford?]

[Cambiaso?] -- Khusanov -- Dias -- Gvardiol
Akanji -- Reis/Bah -- Ake -- Lewis

Rodri
[Camavinga?]

[Wirtz?] -- Nico G.
Foden -- Grealish/O'Reilly

[Rogers?] -- Haaland -- Marmoush
Bobb -- [Delap?] -- Savinho

Think we have to be ruthless and make sure Walker (past it), Nunes (not good enough), Stones (never fit), Gundogan (past it), Bernardo (past it), Kovacic (past it), McAtee (not good enough), Perrone (not good enough), Phillips (not good enough), and Doku (not good enough) find new clubs.

Time to get hold of some physical players with good technical ability who are ready to step into the team straight away. We were after Cambiaso anyway, we've been linked to Camavinga and Wirtz, and we should be activating Delap's buy-back clause ASAP. Rogers will be tricky but if we pip Villa to Champions League football we could tempt him in.

We will have the best front 3 in the Premier League next season, or possibly even this season if Haaland recovers:

Marmoush----Haaland-----Bobb

Bobb was only on for 15 minutes but in that 15 mins he produced a moment of fantastic skill. This lad is so composed. He's got star quality imo.

And Marmoush has 21 league goals this season. The same as Haaland. Imagine if you put Bobb in the side and have Rodri at the base of the midfield with a solid back 4. City are still functional. We just need to develop our young players. Please do not sell Macatee and O'Reilly. Bring them through with 1 midfield signing, and possibly a right back. That is that is needed. Two top quality additions. Two top quality additions with Stones/Akanji, a fit Rodri and developing young players in Macatee, Savinho, Bobb, Echeverri, Reis etc and we will be ready.

We put 5 past Palace who were a decent side in form with players missing. That tells me that City are OK. Possibly it pays to be grounded and take the good with bad games.

i dont think the rebuild is going to be as big as people think, end of season we have to get rid of those who have no hope of making it even if we make a loss, the last thing we need is a squad of players who are not going to step up,thats going to clogg things up, Rodri is back along with Bobb, McAtee is looking the part along with O'reilly, Lewis i'm not convinced but maybe worth hanging on to untill we have the right players around him, 4 excellent signings such as Wirtz and we'l be back and in to reclaim our title

I don't think we need 4 think 3 outfield is all we need, goalkeepers , who knows could be 1 could be 3.
The hardest part is getting players out to make room to bring in 3 Outfield players KDB is gone Would still need to lose probably Walker, Phillips, Grealish, Nunes, Bernardo, and either Kovacic or Gundogan just to bring in 3

Same here I still dont see this massive rebuild. we've had it, mid-season. We may buy one or 2 more is how I see it. And I'd love us to go big, bring in ready made players rathe than prospects, especially if the 115 charges go our way.

And I really think we need to replace Kevin. He's been such a miss consistency wise last couple of seasons and its clear when he is playing we produce more. He will need replacing asap.

We absolutely need to bring in some top class players.

In all honesty I can see KdB, Kovacic, Gundogan, Bernardo, Walker, Stones, Grealish and Ederson going and whilst they might all have had better days their mental strength is difficult to replace. I wouldn't be surprised to see others go too. The squad is dead on it's feet and this season has shown that.

We have bought in a few 'for the future' as well as having some Academy players, but in all honesty whilst they look decent it's hard to tell if there's any KdB/Rodri/Fernandinho's in them. I'm not sure I think any of the ones we've brought in in January will end up being world class from the limited time I've seen them.

We need to bring in about 3/4 top class players. We need a keeper, a right back, left back and a central midfielder just to start challenging for the title let alone the CL.

we need a big squad in terms of numbers. if this season wasnt a warning for that we will not compete in multiple fronts again.
we also have quite a few players that need to move because they are old or just lost their mojo. no way I would keep Grealish and have his as 2nd best paid player behind Haaland once KDB left. Pep doesnt prefer him on the left anymore as a regular, neither thinks much of him in central. so its mostly a bench role and with his salary thats sick also not good for morale for other play their ass off for 1/3rd or half of the salary while Grealish starts 8-10 PL games and has a total 1+1 G+A which is shit out by Nico OReilly from LB position...

Walker, KDB going too.
big question mark on fitness of Ake and Stones. we went out to the market for Khusanov and Reis for a reason.
then there is Kovacic, Bernardo. Bernardo might be leaning towards a change. like every summer window. now is the first time when I think his performance wouldnt be such a big miss as before. his character would be missed but if Pep wants to build a more dynamic side with more speed not sure Bernardo is good for that.
Kovacic could stay but needs to be strictly in rotation role.
Gundogan, same, in a rotation role he can add some experience, but in his weak moments Pep want to start him 3x and play him 90 mins in a week and that will hurt us.

one of Ortega or Ederson will deffo leave imo too. there is a chance both could leave.
McAtee's future is there to decide as well.

this is already requiring us to look at number of players just to do the basic replenishment quantity wise and brutal planning of the situations for what if X wants to leave/leaves as well?

there is a reason Txiki was ordered to stay and help Viana to sort this summer. gonna be sick in terms of outgoings and incomings.

oh and I forgot about K. Phillips, and maybe Nunes...

people may underestimate the number of changes thats gonna happen. January was just a small preview of that hopefully.

Eze, wirtz, Guimaraes, Cambiasso in

Bernardo, Kev, Walker, Grealish, Phillip's out, and the surprise possibly Foden
KDB, Walker and Phillips will go. It appears that City might be prepared to let Bernardo and Grealish go but that assumes City and the players both get offers.

The forward line is extremely strong imo. We have Marmoush, Haaland and Bobb plus wide forwards and young players. We also have Echeverri who is a highly promising player. I think there's less rebuilding to do than many think.

How’s the head this morning?

There’s no way we’re selling Foden.

And with Newcastle nailed on for the Champions League Bruno G is going nowhere.
