Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

To be fair at half an hour I didn’t think we’d be doing good work on our goal difference today. I bet the match day thread was a right laugh at that time

Where are all the 'Matchday Thread' wankers?
At 2 nil down there were a lot of justified wanking.
We could have been 4 nil down early in the game.
The resurrection of DeBruyne was incredible. The midfield is still not good enough and a good chance that 2 or 3 of them will be gone next season.

Genuinely couldn't see that response coming at 0-2 but glad it did. KDBs best game in a long while, whilst Marmoush is a player - one of those types who just makes things happen, always lively and he must be a nightmare to mark. Pleased for McAtee who should've had a hat-trick but a wildly entertaining game that was a must-win. Nice to know we still have that sort of attacking performance in our locker. Very tough game at Everton next week upcoming - anything we get there will be a bonus. Villa at Home an absolute must-win with knobs on

Villa is a "must not lose"
Chelsea, Villa, Forest and Newcastle all have games against other top five contenders in the run in
Chelsea have Newcastle, Liverpool and Forest!

Could’ve/ should’ve been 4-0 down, then could’ve / should’ve won about 9-2!! one hell of a strange game, onwards & upwards hopefully, we love you city :)
Stats wise we created 11 big chances. Phenomenal stuff against a palace side that has conceded very few on the road this year. Now if we can keep the pace and movement going and integrate big erl into it we may have a very strong team next year. Defence needs investment tho

Simon Jordan! Vince Hilaire! Kevin Day! Mark Bright! Ian Wright! Geoff Thomas! Eddie McGoldrick! Steve Parish - can you hear me, Steve Parish! Your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!
Feck off
Eddie McGoldrick is one of ours.
The catalyst to our empire.

I thought we were playing ok even at 2-0 down but they looked like they could score another a few times too.
We could easily have been level before Kev scored our 1st as we missed a few decent chances.
Excellent result for us as we need to keep winning to get Champions League.
I didn't know the team until I got to the ground and I will admit I feared the worse when I saw it..but Pep knows best and the result proves that.
Didn't hear any booing in SS3 but there was plenty of groans when it went 2-0 ..
Had a quick look at the match day thread on tram coming home...I'm so glad I don't go there often..
Kev was fantastic today.. deservedly motm.

Bizarre game if they had got the third it was over. We wasted two good chances then KDB literally took the game by the scruff of the neck. What a player he’s been.

In the first half, it felt like we were pushing the FBs up too far up the line with the ball at the back, and allowing them to get in behind us on the wings. Advocated for O’Reilly to come off, Gvardiol to slide over, and Khusanov to give us some speed at the back.

Second half, the early goal changed the game even more than the two goals in the first half, because it knocked the stuffing out of them.

From there, we started passing things around, stopped taking chances at the back, and kept pushing forward.

Was very surprised how well Gonzales, Kova & Gundo moved the ball through the midfield, and coupled with KDB dropping in and out as needed, we looked like we were dangerous in and around the box…for a change.

Disappointed McAtee didn’t get 4, but in getting the 4th, he finished the game off as a contest.

Little disappointed in Lewis positioning and his defending, but did better going forward.

Everyone else looked like they were up for it once KDB woke them all up. With a bit of luck, that could have been 9 or 10, but then with a bit of luck for them, it could have been 0-4 before we woke up!!

5-2 looks far more comfortable than it was for the first 22 minutes, but the quality of the players and their combinations made it a very enjoyable watch for an hour or so…and that has been missing for a month of two.

With the Forest loss, if everyone wins their game(s) in hand, we are 6th by a point, so there’s still plenty of work to do, with some very good, and some decent, teams yet to play.

If we play anything like that last 60mins for the rest of the season, we will have no problems making the CL positions. The only question is, “Can we?”

Proper jekyll and hyde performance that! So tempting to offer Kev one more year when he does that, even if you accept it might be one in every three performances if we use him sparingly.

Not quite sure how var and the ref decided that there wasn't enough contact for the Marmoush penalty, certainly does enough to put him off balance so surely that's the measure on such a critical situation?

What I would like to go back and check is how we nullified their threat. Was it more possession, or was Mateta really causing us such an issue that we were losing it heading towards our own goal?

Anyway, very tough game next and I'm hoping a draw will be enough. This battle for champions league is probably very interesting to the neutral, but for the teams in it it's who holds their nerves now and gets those wins. It literally changes every few days, and at least we can say this season we've been involved in the race far more exciting to watch than the title itself.
