Why do we bother?

Prisons can't just be brutal places where you lock people in windowless cells and throw food through a hatch. You make that job impossible for the people working in them. There has to be some level of civility which I guess is a balancing act between the criminal and the institution that is best judged by the people in those institutions.
Absolutely correct. But its a hard sell to say to a tax paying citizen, we are going to spend you're money on training this **** who smashed up your family member to become a plumber. And hopefully in five years he won't do it again for the fifth time. Cunts are Cunts as are leopards and spots .

Keeping scum like this around, no doubt his wellbeing will be made a priority.

Seems to be another "incident" tucked away in the media.

1) Because Justice and law regardless of the crime are the bedrock of a proper, civilised society.
2) Because we don't have capital punishment.
3) Because he is a better deterrent alive than dead.
4) Because killing him in the name of the law would make him a martyr.

The correct question to ask is how the fuck this happens in a modern, high security prison?

I have more respect and sympathy for prison guards than most civil servants tbh. It's probably more dangerous than any other service job but without the recognition.

I hope they have a swift recovery.

And I could tell you about the brilliant people who give up their time to run charities, food banks, youth projects.
People who stop and help the elderly including the ones that help my mum.
The teachers that spend their own time doing things with their pupils, scout leaders, youth workers, those at Trafford General hospital who work in the shop, the list is endless it includes people who took in Ukrainian families and others who volunteer to work in poor countries providing health care. The majority (and although that only has to be 51%, it is far higher) are kind caring loving people.
And...... all those generous people who continually get the beer in without the reward of a pint in return.

1) justice would be to get rid of him
2) we should
3) deterrent to whom this types don’t give a shit
4) who cares if he’s a martyr, only those who do similar
Get him off the public pursue, hopefully he falls down some stairs several times until he stops breathing.

An uncivilised response to a civilised post.

People seem to equate not wanting to kill him with thinking he's a good guy and wanting him round for dinner. Im 100% certain nobody who is against the death penalty would give a shite if he ended up being stabbed to death by other inmates. A civilised society can't murder people in the name of justice

We could at least take his spice rack and selection of cooking oils away from him FFS.

What I can’t understand is why Islamic extremists are housed together. They indoctrinate younger fodder. Split them up. Spread them around jails all over the country to reduce the risk of radicalisation.

Just looked at the numbers and around 30% of the prison population are muslim, which is mental considering Muslims make up around 6% of the UK population. What's going on there

In this case he's held in a special unit for high risk terrorists, I believe there are only 16 inmates

You have no factual basis to quote that figure and neither do I. People will have different experiences and judge what a decent person is in very different ways.
The appearance of being decent is quite easy to carry off but we are certainly living in a more self interested society.
The groups you mention would equate to a small percentage of the population anyhow.
