I think the way the interviewer kept hammering home that " you're an astronaut now" was a bit disrespectful to the "real" astronauts who had to undergo years of training and were true pioneers, not just someone who could pay for the experience

If Alan Shepard is considered an astronaut, so are they.
He only went up then down, no orbit.

Slight height variance's

Concord = 55-60k feet
Blue Origin 346k feet ( on this flight )
Alan Shepard 612k feet

FYI the Kármán line is considered the boundry of space at 330,000 feet so yep, technically they could be classed as astronaut's.

they were still not a "Crew" though, Crew suggests they did something. they were passengers nothing more.

No, up to about FL 600, about 60,000 ft. We’ve had Canberra spy planes and of course the Yanks’ U-2/TR-1 go higher. You can see the curvature of the Earth and very deep blue sky above, but it’s not space. Though the outside air pressure up there would finish you off in seconds without a pressure suit if anything went wrong.

I can’t get my head around that they went that far in 10 minutes.
 
There is a lot of sexist shite aimed at these women, a lot of female journos going for them as well, how dare they have make up on and hair extensions, it is the media calling them astronouts not themselves , i wonder if people savaged shatner and other men going up to space for a joy ride

Pretty much yep. From what i've seen every launch of Blue origin has had its critic's as its literally just a joy ride. serve's zero purpose, with Space X there is a purpose to it, they are either improving the tech to get further or more efficient or launch satalites etc. From memory they didn't call his group of passengers a crew either.

If you dig into the tech of Blue Origin its quite interesting though as it uses oxygen and natural gas, its considered to be a Clean space rocket but outside of that improvement its just built for a joyride.

Edit: I will add to this there seems to be more backlash to this flight than the others. but that could just be the level of fuss being made over it in the 1st place. There have been 11 flights of the New Shepard pod. 1st one was on the news, 2nd one was on the news as it had Shatner on it. then nothing till this one bar the odd tweet i've seen having a whinge about it
