TV Series

Catching up with a load of Ed Stafford docs on Discovery. He’s currently walking through a game reserve in Namibia in just a pair of shorts, the absolute mentalist.
What might the issue be? A elephant trunk up the leg of the shorts?
I always wear shorts at the African lion safari in the hopes I get an elephant trunk reach around.

Binged severance season 2 over the last week after saving it until it was all released. Have to say I'm disappointed in it. It's not been bad but it doesn't live up to the same standards season 1 set.

Quite simply, not a lot has happened. for how long it's been between seasons and how few episodes there is, you just have to have more going on. I'm still in on it and looking forward to a season 3 but the anticipation has definitely gone down for me. Had very similar feelings towards Silo season 2, another apple tv product.

Struggling with Series 1 & you’ve made my mind up not to bother with Series 2….

Despite my less than glowing comments, I'd still recommend it. As I said, it wasn't bad by any means, just didn't live up to the promise that season 1 showed. I really enjoyed season 1 but if you haven't enjoyed season 1 then yeah it's probably not going to be for you as it's not as good as that imo.

On bbc Iplayer.

Just finished watching the series about the Kinahan drug cartel, 4 episodes, the first 2 are mainly just about a local feud/murders over drugs in Dublin/UK, but it goes on to take in the world, sport (boxing - tyson fury), the US (sanctions), iran, hezbollah, south american drug cartels, and many other people/countries including the UAE, so many murders seem to be attributed to him.

A very interesting story, and despite all the evidence he still seems to living the "good life" in Dubai, despite his asstets being "frozen".

Sounds right up my alley. Is it a documentary?

Watched 3 so far, enjoyed it even though I know quite a lot about them and the Hutch family anyway. Going to read Clash of Clans next week which is the book by the female journalist who features on it.

I’m halfway through the third series of Gangs of London. I’m almost ashamed to say that I’m quite enjoying it.

I think the writers have now completely abandoned the idea of trying to pass it off as gritty reality. And have just turned it almost into a parody of itself.

It’s basically now just a never ending machine gun fight between everybody still alive. With a tiny bit of incomprehensible storyline between the fights. And next to no interest from the police, despite about 50% of the population of London having now being shot dead.

Anyone seen any of MobLand yet?

Excellent cast and looks like good old, Guy Ritchie style fun, from the adverts.

Friends and Neighbours on Apple. John Hamm. Brilliant!!!!

Land Man, easily the best thing I've seen since the Sopranos.

Friends and Neighbours has a lot of potential. Only seen the first 2 episodes but I can see it could get really good, or it might fizzle out. The trailer for the rest of the season with lots of police chases and action alarmed me a bit as I thought the most interesting bits were the social commentary and I want to see how this guy tries to keep up with the Jones’ and maintain appearances while his life is crumbling and how desperate he’ll get, not just see it devolve into high speed police chases and murder mystery.

I imagine this is divisive, but anyone else fed up of streaming services which we pay for putting tv shows out weekly?

I imagine some people enjoy it. I don't Give us the option maybe?

I know this is a very old comment but it’s kind of interesting right now as Marvel decided (suddenly I believe) to show 2 episodes back to back of Daredevil because they were losing viewers and they thought a double week would pull people back in.

I think it depends a lot on the show. Some are written to be dumped all in one go and be binged on a long weekend, others (like severance) are better when you’ve got a week to digest and analyse the episode and get excited for the next one.

Binge watching shows does cover up a lot of bad decisions & writing IMO, because you don’t have time to really pull something apart critically when the next episode starts in 10 seconds, but it also really highlights when a series is too long or has too much padding. A lot of the old 13 episode Netflix originals could have been cut back to 10 and been better for it -and when you’re on your 3/4th episode of the day you feel it. Some of them just dragged on.

I think the Amazon LOTR show would have been much better received if it was released all at once - a lot of the criticisms and complaints of both seasons were answered later on, but fans had 6-8 weeks of complaining about it before the show resolved those complaints, and if it had been released at once people would have seen the whole show before judging.
