41 years since Good Friday Boundary Park mayhem

The Battle of Bad Good Friday was my second away game of the season, first being Portsmouth away.
Was with me dad opposite from the side from where the ladder went up, around near the corner of the terrace behind the goal. A pick pocket got leathered senseless in front of us. Proper mental that day

Good old Ice Station Zebra. The ladder first appeared outside the ground and was taken in by City fans, I saw one blue get bitten on the arse by a police dog much to the amusement of just about everyone 'queueing' to get in.

Notts County away was, if anything worse. or better depending on how you view these matters. 3 sides of the ground full of blues barely a fence left standing and if memory serves, we were 3 nil down after about half an hour. There was also an impromptu kick about on the forecourt of a petrol station about 10 miles from the ground, it looked about 100 a-side.

As I recall, the ladder was for TV crews to access the gantry under the roof and was just lying at the top of the stand. It was passed down to the terrace by some pesky blues

You are correct.
The ladder was chained to an old lead drain pipe outside the away end.
That was booted in and the liberated ladder was passed under the turnstile by us blues.

Seats we're getting ripped out in that Family stand and lobbed at the old bill, they were like dining chairs heavy as fuck, they were just crazy days, another time comes to mind at Coventry in 85 in FA Cup, they were the first all seater ground in England and we ripped the seats out there and launched em at the old bill and their keeper Steve Ogrizovic!
Just mad days, a totally different world!
The best of times.

What the fuck kind of stories are the kids of today gonna be telling on the forums in 30 years time, the poor fuckers won't have any kind of adventures to recall.

No they weren't the best of times. It was fucking sad, fucking pathetic and fucking desperate.

I was at the Oldham, I lived close to the ground. It was embarrassing, our entitlement we showed that day was dipper levels that we call out today.

Don't be proud of this blues, it was pathetic and thankfully we are better than that now.

Ahhh, come on.
You must have some episodic memories of those times ?
Notts County is a classic piece of Nostalgia.
The Cool Cats were travelling in Mini bus just in front which stopped near Woolaton Park, 20 of them got out to relieve themselves on the trees at the side of the Road, holding up the traffic even more.
We were sat next to County fans, when the 3rd goal went in, a bloke put his Cigar out on one of their heads.
It was mayhem,
What a day, have a heart !

I know it was unusual then but a game like this should have been all ticket?

Who made the decision for it not to be all ‘all ticket’? GMP

Quick question, if you don't mind. You've been on here 13 years, and you have 60 posts; how come you haven't contributed more to the forum, particularly given the phenomenal period we've enjoyed since you joined? It's not against the rules on here (we have a lot of lurkers on here who rarely post, so you're far from being on your own), but I find it strange. Just had a quick look at your post history; nothing from you before sept 2020, so nothing about the Centurions or Fourmidables seasons. Precious little about the treble season, or the 4peat. Yet you felt the need to complain about crowd trouble at a game from a totally different era. Okay; that's your choice. So be it. Re your point; Society, and the match going public in particular, is a totally different beast to what it was back in the 70s/80s. It's very rare now that you get reports of major violence, inside or outside of the stadia.

Different times and era, it was an utterly bonkers day but a day 41 years later I can remember as if it was yesterday.

It was hilarious and scary at times but again it was normal for that time.

The first relegation season after Luton was often the same, some of my most enjoyable and memorable football days happened at the glamorous locations of Shrewsbury, Grimsby, Oldham and Carlisle.

I personally would not swop those memories for anything and make the last decade plus dreams come true even more special.
