I think a little spell on the bench will do him good. Bring him back for Wolves at home and play him number 10.

The links to Wirtz et al(out and out 10s) points to lack of belief that Phil can hold that position.
He's not creative enough, is weak on the ball and can't dribble so it does make sense.
Unless a big change in system(2 10s and wingbacks) can't see Phil getting much, if any, game time there next season.

I'd put a large sum of money on Foden making at least 40 appearances next season (injury aside).

If he performs like this season again, then maybe we can start to have a conversation.

Such short memories in football, one sub-par season does not define a player.

I'm going to go as far as to say I have no doubt Phil can more than fill the void that will be left by Kev. I dont think we've ever consistently seen this lad in (what he would say is) his best position, and if we finally do, I think he'll thrive.

Some of the comments you read about this lad these days, its almost like people have never seen the lad play ffs. Baffling.

Yeah he'll play on the wing as he almost always has done... He's simply not got the attributes we need in a 10.

Bit of genuine inside info on Phil. He is suffering from a form of IBS and it is severely effecting his energy levels and causing back ache. I think many of us suspected some sort of illness as a reason for his performances this year. Not gossip - genuine info from someone who knows. Maybe some on here might give him a bit of slack if they research how this illness can effect a person, especially a sportsman/woman

Is it IBS or IBD? IBD would be a bit more worrysome long term. But, IBS is often due to other factors, which will need addressing. IBS is a symptom rather than a cause.

He deffo said ibs and that it effected his energy and explained is bad back. If he meant IBD then yes that would be a major problem

IBD will do that as well. Let's hope it is IBS. It could be a case of too much stress on his body and the pressures of the expectation on his shoulders has impacted his guts. It's not pleasant but it is far less of a concern than if he had IBD. A total rest, both mentally and physically will do him the world of good. I don't think the negativity around his England performances will have helped his mental state.
He might be holding himself together in his head and thinks he has everything under control. Unfortunately, our guts seem to have a mind of their own.
For his own good, he needs a total refresh and that means staying away from the English circus for a while.

In the current form the club doesn’t need him. Give him off until the CWC

I think it means staying away from football for a while. Ideally he should be given the summer off, so he can have a proper break physically and mentally. But I think he'll want to play the CWC.

I wonder if your info has come from the same person I heard things from, or at least through the grapevine from the same source. I was told by one person that it was IBD (or complicated IBS), and then heard from someone else that Phil had hired a new chef due to gastro issues - neither of these people knew each other.

If it is IBS, I really can't get past that night he spent at the Purple Pakora after winning POTY just before the season started. He was 'sick' that week, according to Pep, and there were reports it was food poisoning. An Indian near me called Chilli Massalla got the blame initially and they had to put a statement out saying Phil wasn't there.

A lot of people think everyone gets over food poisoning in 48-72 hours but it can linger for ages sometimes.

Food poisoning can seriously fuck up some peoples' microbiomes and if they don't get proper treatment quickly then the bad bacteria can just take over and set up shop. Thankfully he doesn't seem to have progressed to anything like diverticulitis or clostridium difficile yet, but I hope he's getting good care to avoid those things.

In the summer of 2018, I got fucked up by a batch of antibiotics that I was taking for an ear infection - I didn't leave the house for two weeks. I started on this thing called Symprove soon after and then looked further into other probiotics - eventually I got myself back on track but it took a lot of amateur research and hard work.

I can only hope Phil's using all his money to get the best care and get himself fit again.

Yeh my info came via my son who has just got a job with FIFA (sports analyst) and it came from someone who is/was at city sports science dept. So getting one initial wrong could be possible. I’ll double check. Either way, it’s illness that has affected him and not just turning shit and not bothered as many on here think. He obvs needs time and rest to get it sorted.

I have IBD. It's taken a total lifestyle change, a move 200 miles away from Manchester and a biological infusion every 8 weeks to get it under control. That's why I hope it's IBS and not IBD.
IBD robbed Darren Fletcher 2 years of his career and he would have been getting the best medical care that money can buy.
Something definitely not right with Phil this season. If it is a digestive system related ailment, he should be given a good rest.

Oh hell. Let’s hope it’s not that then. Hope you’re getting a hold of it now?

Just checked, my lad is pretty sure he said IBS - but not 100% sure - so let’s hope it’s that

I'm sound mate. When someone mentions IBS or gut related issues, it just sets alarm bells ringing in my head.
The problem with it, is that you have no control over it. It's not like an injury, where you can feel yourself getting better, bit by bit. It is so debilitating. It's even worse that people can't see the turmoil you're going through.
Phil seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders and he had a few young kids at home to deal with. I would not be surprised if it's had a detrimental impact on his guts.

Big kick up the arse from Pep not bringing him on despite Gundo and KDB struggling.
If he’s suffering from symptoms described he was never going to come on, I reckon Pep just wants to keep him in the squad and amongst the lads…..hopefully he’ll overcome whatever he’s struggling with and we get the best of Phil back next season
