I fully back the groups doing this and I get involved where I can but for something to happen on the scale that would make real and lasting change across the board then it would need to be a collective effort.

Imagine the opening weekend of a premier league season if all season ticket holders didn't attend or even if all the season ticket holders stayed on the concourse till the 10th minute. Imagine the message that would send to owners, chairman and the league about how us fans feel about whats happening.

No need to apologise mate. I wasn't having a go - just pointing out that there is unity across clubs amongst fan groups and to be fair many people won't necessarily be aware of that

An interesting read that. I've posted the relevant bits below. It seems that Villa fans are divided on the ticket pricing issue, and while our own fans aren't totally united on that front, I think we're further on from theirs in terms of uniting the fanbase in terms of pushing back on ticket prices:

The ticket prices for Aston Villa’s home Champions League games are punishing a fan base that has endured plenty of heartache and stuck by the team, especially during the three seasons in the Championship.

What’s worse is that any sign of complaint—any mere hint of opposition—is being shut down due to a misguided belief that protesting against the club is the same as protesting against Unai Emery and the players.

The online opposition to the planned protest against Everton was almost cult-like.

Protesting against disproportionately increased ticket prices is intended to safeguard every fan’s future, whether they see it or not.

If prices continue to rise as they have, it will soon cost three figures for a ticket to any game, all in the name of paying one player’s wage for half a season.

The effects of Wolves being a Category A game are already visible.

Hundreds of seats that would have been filled with reasonably priced tickets were left unsold because they were simply too expensive for fans.

How does that sit with the revenue argument?

There are currently two camps online: fans of Aston Villa the football club, and fans of Aston Villa’s commercial team. Even if they started selling a half-and-half scarf with Chris Heck on one side and Unai Emery on the other for £80, there wouldn’t be a resolution.

At a time when the on-pitch performances are setting new standards, some fans are happy to behave like turkeys voting for Christmas, encouraging the club to charge whatever they want for tickets.

If you don’t believe in protests or deride people standing up for themselves and their families, that’s your prerogative. Just don’t complain and cause an ugly scene when you’re eventually priced out of anything to do with Aston Villa.

Our allocation was 6000 but it sold out at high points - maybe all to cup schemers as well I think - and we clearly could've sold another few thousand at least

We also took around 6000 there back in the 2006 FA Cup game which again had only about 23000 in attendance. That was the one where Micah equalised in the last minute and was a couple of years or so before the takeover so no hangers-on back in those days

Villa have the same problem fans as we have, support the club before other fans which isn't the way it should be at all.

Anyone just fed up with the contanst criticism our club gets? We win a big game and the talk is 'city can't fill their stadium'.

I think thats the issue really. The fans groups do a great job and they publicise as best they can but it often doesn't reach the masses. My mum was the one that got me into City and she happened to be with me at the Leicester game due to a spare ticket and she didn't know anything about us missing the first 9 mins till I explained it to her on the way to the game. It seems to be getting more media attention now and I don't think it would've happened without the 9 min protest. The lad who was on the overlap speaking about it recently did a great job and it was good to see the fans other clubs agreeing.

Yep. I had some dickhead half and half scarf seller of all people having a pop at me last night while I was handing out the protest leaflets near the tram stop. Turns out he's a season ticket holder. It all started off ok when I was showing him the leaflet but his cluelessness came racing to the surface straight away when he saw the match day prices for the Villa game and said that he thought the tickets for Villa fans were capped at £30. I pointed out that these were home end ticket prices. Then he started getting all defensive about the club. Now he's entitled to his opinion like the rest of us but some of his takes were unreal and full of shit.

I asked him whether he thought it was fair that a family of 4 should pay between £228 and £292 for last night's game. His answer was that he's a ST holder who stumps up all his money up front so in that case it absolutely is fair. I said "So how does a working class family from Manchester afford to pay that?" His answer: "Well those ticket prices aren't aimed at those people as they know they can fill it with other fans". To which I asked "So how come there are thousands of unsold tickets for tonight?" Not much of an answer to that one as you can imagine

I asked him what he would do if he was ever priced out. His answer was simply "I'll just accept it and not go".

Then I asked him what he would do if he got affected by the 10 games minumum attendance stipulation for next season and what he would think to it if he broke his leg and had to miss shit loads of games, putting his 10 game minimim attendance in jeopardy: "I'll just get someone to go to the ground, scan my season ticket and then walk back out again".

I asked him how does a child follow in his father's footsteps by getting a season ticket when no new season tickets have been issued for years: "Use someone else's season ticket then". Like it's that fucking easy!

I asked him how the likes of Bayern Munich can have thousands of dirt-cheap season tickets without jeopardising all their other revenue streams: "What are you bringing those German cunts into it for? It's a 1 team league"......."But Borussia Dortmund and other German clubs sell cheap season tickets too"......"So what"

The icing on the cake was him telling me that the biggest complaints amongst fellow season ticket holders around him were the number of randomers being there, and implied that we should be specifically focusing on that, yet the cheeky **** was there selling half and half scarves to the very type of people that he'd just been slagging off!

Funnily enough, the United supporting half and half scarf seller who was with him actually got the gist of why we were protesting while he didn't

Oh, and we're all moaners apparently. We never do anything else but moan and he told me I'd been moaning ever since we left Maine Road. How he could draw that conclusion when he'd only known me for 15 minutes is beyond me!

1/3 season ticket plans.. but keep prices the same per game.
So instead of 19 home games.. you get 6 or 7.

In all honesty.. COVID has showed the clubs they don't need to depend on match day revenue. The TV revenue will be vastly superior.. they should just keep prices reasonable.

But even City+ got a 250% price increase last season!
