Mods - feel free to delete if this has been done elsewhere - got into a discussion about historic support on the Forest pre match thread. I've created some post WW1 to present graphs for us v the other "big" non Arse/Rag/Dipper rivals. Some interesting stuff...should shut some of the no history mob up. Interesting to see how big Spurs/Toon/Everton have been historically

I engaged with you this morning after being amazed by your stats, you're single aren't you ;-)

Joking apart, what I learnt from your stats i've been wondering today,

How close are we to overtaking any of the Clubs above us?

Rags Spuds, Arse, Dips not happening as their grounds are bigger than ours but Toffee's and Geordie's is possible

How close are we (although more games like last Tuesday then it won't help :-) )

I couldn't be bothered checking, thanks.

What happened in 1965? Less than 15k? I know we were Div 2 then but were crowds low in general then?
I think it was the post war post lending it's Maine Road post Busby babe post Munich disaster factor apart from being in div 2. The perfect storm. The whole country had sympathy for United and rightly so but it cost us for a while.

When the swamp was bombed we should have slipped in and....

Think that was the year we got our lowest league crowd of 8000

Unfortunately for a number of reasons the average attendance figures historically are not fit for for purpose.
Therefore any comparisons, generalisations are misleading and inaccurate.

Can you go on every teams forum next season and post the graph on their forum,,,before they rock up to the Etihad or we go to their place - and get the ignorant no fans / no 'istry jibe - i literally had an argument with Norwich fan recently who thought their club was bigger than ours before our take over!..I then sat down and went through aver league position since 1900...average gates since 1900...honours 1900 - 2008 they were of course smashed in every department by us - i got an ''oh didn't know that!'' response - unbelievable - let's get these sort of facts out there as it's doing all our heads on...Sunday will be dreadful...10,000 empties at our end..tv camera panning round to the seats more than the match..im fking sick of it really

Before the premier league the statistics gurus said the United City Liverpool Everton Tottenham Arsenal Newcastle Aston Villa were the big 8. I think the only change is that Chelsea have replaced Aston villa.

Imagine being this bothered about the empty seats digs.
I love a good spreadsheet as much as the next man, but got to agree with you on this. The reasons for empty seats today and last Tuesday have been fully covered.

The stats on that site are good, and it’s nice to examine league positions and cup positions, but … just be aware that some of the attendances (for City at least) aren’t accurate according to @Gary James
The really low Newcastle ones all go missing in the late 80s. No idea why that might be? <shrugs shoulders>
