The "Eric Nixon" Final

New Eric very well, lived round the corner from him in Withington, played in the same Sunday League team with him (before City came along) , been on a lads holiday with him. You wouldn't want to be on the opposite side in a punch up. Proper character.
Had some hassle one night in the Manor House from some lads who had been booted out of I think the Red Lion. Let's just say Eric ensured that I had a peaceful night

Blimey, remember that one, "there's gonna be a riot" !!, Eric Nixon was one of my favourite players as a kid, can't believe he is from withington as I live right next to it, always for some reason thought he was a Scouser(probably due to the Tranmere connection)

Old Moat primary school. Don't know which senior school he went to.

I have rarely left a game so angry as that one v Palace. Yet again we fought hard to get a lead in a big promotion battle. Yet again we were cheated by incompetant refereeing. Remember the bastard getting hit with something as he made a hasty exit. Still hate Wright and Bright with a passion.
I was one of the many outside the Main Stand after the game, well pissed off. Palace came out and onto the bus but Coopell got into a car and drove off elsewhere to boos.
We waited for the ref for ages. Then a steward came up and said he left ages ago via a gate in Platt Lane.
I walked to the Parkside and had missed the 6pm 99 bus to Sale Moor so had to wait for the 7pm bus…. Was 8pm when I got home.

Did the 99 used to go up Princess road, onto the parkway, then onto Sale road?

Up the Parkway and off at the Royal Thorn, down Altrincham Road to Baguley, up Brooklands Road and half way up turn into (and all around) Brooklands, coming out into Sale Moor somewhere, then Sale Road, ending up at Sale Station

Ahh thanks. I was trying to remember its route as I used to get it on Sale road up to Sale leisure centre in the early 80s.

It was scandalous Blue.

I think that was the first game I ever heard the crowd chant 'Cheat !' in unison. I was 13 at the time and sat in the block between the Main & North stands, where the Police control room was, and there were 2 palace fans sat behind me. They were wise to keep quiet and scarpered off early because of the toxicity of the crowd towards palace.

If I remember correctly, City were on a 10 game winning run following the 10-1 against Huddersfield and promotion looked good, but after this game our league form fell apart.

We did manage to get to the 1/4 final round of the FA Cup, but succumbed to Liverpool 0-4. I cried that day.

Mark Bright never came across as that type of player to me when seeing him play afterwards. Ian Wright has always been a twat.
I do remember Mark Bright co-commentating on the FA Cup game at Villa Park when Micah Richards equalised with a last minute header and Bright was laughing because of it. Apparently that upset the Villa fans and the BBC received written complaints from them about it. So he went up in my estimation after that.
