US Tariff War

I pay PLENTY in tax…
Federal Income Tax (35%),
State income tax (5%),
Social Security tax (6.3%),
Medicare Tax (4.2%),
Home property tax (2% of home values),
Sales tax (10.25%, 12% in restaurants),
Vehicle tax ($150/car & more for the boat),
Petrol tax (who knows?!),
$100 car sticker for each car in my village

PLUS about $600/mo on current healthcare

AND, about $1,000/mo for our retirement healthcare (My wife’s family all seem to live into their 90s)!

As a wage earner, with no young children, I have ZERO DEDUCTIONS open to me, other than the Standard $30,000 Married Filing Jointly. So, I know all about taxes, on both sides of the pond (all my family are still there), and I’m not sure you’re paying more than so-called “lower tax” Americans!

Anyway, I’m all in favor of extra taxes being paid above the $1M MAGI LEVEL, and it feels like it would be very well received by the 95%+ that it would never affect! The problem, of course, is that people at that level usually have business income, lots of deductions and probably pay much less than I do!!

Whatchagonnado?!
Get producing children.

Empty shelves and mega price increases for what is available are days away in Trump land.
Saw an interesting article on this saying it takes about 30 days for the containers to get from China to Los Angeles so if Tariffs go in April 10 and the shipping stops, then it wont really be felt for at least 30 days after (May 10). Now if nothing changes, the ports slow, trucking/transportation slows and the shelves empty.

Lets say there is public outcry and Trump goes opens up China again, its still going to take minimum 30 days for the containers to get to the US from China and they still have to be unloaded and transported to stores, so its going to take ages for normality to resume. Much like the whole Covid supply chain issue.

I have also seen prior to the election some large businesses ordered extra when he started banging on about tariffs - that of course needs storage which increases costs too and lessens profits but its only a short term fix that has probably already run out

Telling the truth is now a traitorous and hostile act. Just when you think it can’t get any more surreal……..

Also, it’ll surely just enable all the MAGA patriots to choose US made everything, as they’ll clearly have no tariff next to their prices?

Don't try and be sensible and point out possible positive points by now the paranoid defence mode is on full afterburner and making Leavitt a coffee as a friendly gesture will probably get her reporting you to Bondi and you wanking up in El Salvador or somewhere similar

Wanking up in El Salvador sounds like a shocker of a porno……..

The dock workers are starting to notice the drop in containers coming into L.A. from China. Next the truck drivers will notice and then the people will see it in the shops.

Good God.

Confidence in the economy has slumped for the fifth straight month, falling to its lowest level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

And more Americans are also now worried that the economy could tip into a recession, with the proportion of consumers expecting a downturn in the next 12 months reaching a two-year high.

US thinktank the Conference Board said the numbers from its consumer confidence index - which fell by 7.9 points in April - were fuelled by fears about Trump's tariffs.

Nearly one-third of consumers expect hiring to slow in the coming months, nearly matching the level reached in April 2009, when the economy was mired in the recession which started in 2008, the thinktank added.

They reckon the shelves will be empty in two weeks, Walmart etc have warned Trump already, this is when the shit will hit the fan. Scott Bessent saying China will feel it first, what he doesn’t understand is how they rule that country, unlike the usa they’ll put any descent down rapidly, China will rinse America in this, the ar has only just begun.

It was suggested, but it wasn't "main" Amazon
It was Amazon Haul, a part of their business that competes with Temu and Shein
The news report said Amazon had announced it, and they hadn't
Sounds like it was Amazon putting the feelers out in a way that could be denied if tango got upset about it.
