President Trump

Really?

Which country entered the war on principle? You think we did? In defence of Poland? A country we could supply no material aid to let alone defend?
I mean, that sort of suggests that "principle" was part of the reason at least. We weren't ready when Sudetenland was invaded, we weren't ready when Chamberlain came home with that piece of paper, we weren't ready when Poland was invaded, but we stuck to our guns (no pun intended) and responded in the only way a principled nation could do.

So you're happy to see your council tax being pissed up the wall on non jobs?
I used to have a couple of neighbours who run businesses that each pull around 80% of their income from their council authorities.

They actually bragged about how they rip them off and how inflated invoices are just paid without ever being questioned. Rife.

So why focus on DEI (which it seems absorbs zero budget in Durham)?

Like a DOGE job to cut the few jobs that 14 years of Tory austerity haven't cut?

Seriously, cut DEI and the council will likely face the costs of discrimination cases and in extremis the equal pay issue that bankrupted Birmingham.

DEI is discrimination

The recent film Munich: The Edge of War is very much in that camp, that Chamberlain knew what Hitler's real intentions were all along and Munich was simply a matter of buying time. The young idealist in the film played by George Mackay is seen trying to convince Chamberlain that Hitler was a wrong un. Yet Chamberlain appears dismissive, even irritated, in such a way that we are led to believe he already knew, but he also knew that nothing would be gained by publicly admitting it, and that precious time could be bought by stringing it out for as long as possible.

The parallel story of what was happening in Germany at the time had an interesting slant as well.

Notwithstanding it's fiction based on a Robert Harris book, It's a nuanced interpretation and Angela Merkel of all people has publicly supported it.

In the summer of 37 an English cricket team went and played in Germany.
Very good book 'The Field of Shadows' written by Sid Waddell's, of darts fame, son.
Gives quite a bit of detail on what Germany was like at that time.

That's good to hear, on a detailed level - but I was more concerned on a general level that the face of Reform would even come out with that stuff, whether it would be enforceable or not.

They will be in charge of bin collections, bus routes, planning applications and so on. Farage as - nominally - a south coast MP gets no say on the running of councils anywhere else - anything his minions try to do will be subject to UK employment law so no is the answer. In the same way the Mayor in Hull has promised he will not increase taxes - not sure how he thinks he can do that. Should have reapplied to Love Island he may have got on this time and thats about his intellectual level

Yes I've seen the film, it was a very different interpretation of what has been accepted previously, and one that does make sense. It's difficult to imagine that Hitlers word in a letter or declaration would have held much weight at that point, so accepting Chamberlain was actually playing his is something I'm happy to do

I would absolutely love one of these media muppets to call him out and declare him a national embarrassment live on air and then just get up and walk off set. Welker is as bad as Chuck Todd for giving these cunts an easy ride.

It's wild that the closest thing to this has been Jim Acosta leaving CNN because we was pissed off being told what to do instead of being allowed the journalistic freedom to report the facts

Outside of some inner London labour councils, authorities have very few if any. I know my council and the one adjacent have no DEI jobs.

Are you suggesting climate change roles are non jobs?
