I hope like me you'll be pleased that we're more or less in unison on this subject.

My only question is how the hell are we, a nation totally surrounded by natural resources, paying the highest prices in western Europe for power? And no, I don't lay the blame exclusively at the feet of the net zero goal - there's also a lot of rip off profiteering going on and has been for decades, so whilst I do not exclusively blame Labour, they are in part to blame for allowing it to continue as were the Tories for the previous 14 years.

Sort out the high prices and profiteering and the WFA withdrawal would never have been an issue.

So, even though the UK is currently covered in cloud and 22% of our electricity is being generated from solar sources, nuclear physicist on Bluemoon thinks solar farms are a waste of time and the right wing Reform owner/leader is correct in trying to prohibit investment in the technology. No wonder the world is fucked.

The price of electricity is linked to the highest generation source. So, even though it is far cheaper to generate electricity from solar panels, the price you pay is determined by how much it costs to generate electricity from the most expensive source, which is currently gas. As time goes by and solar gets even cheaper, even if 100% of all the electricity you consumed came from renewable energy, your bills will continue to go up as the price you pay is linked to the price of gas, which continues to rise. If the arse fell out of the gas market. The price would be linked to whatever the next most expensive is.

Which is ridiculous in the extreme. How about linking the price of beef mince to haddock fillets? I've been told for YEARS that all my electricity comes from renewables using the equipment that I was taxed for even more years to pay for, what was the point? We're being royally ripped off year after year after year.

Factually incorrect statements need to be addressed. Otherwise people who are not educated or informed on a subject can be deceived. Gaslighting is how we have ended up with Brexit and Donald Trump.
When elections are coming down to 6 votes, we can't allow untruths and nonsense to be spread and accepted.

There is a lot more to it than that and there are some valid reasons why it was implemented. There are political, economic, environmental and moral reasons behind it, which may not be immediately apparent. The world has moved on and changed since it was devised as a concept (generations ago) and implemented by Thatcher, decades ago.
There are energy and renewables threads on here with contributions made from far more knowledgeable posters than myself. You should did them out. They make interesting reading.

The thickest twat in Britain has a vote that is of equal value to the vote of the cleverest professor at Oxbridge. And there are a lot more thick twats than there are Oxbridge professors.

What saves society is that the terminally thick tend not to vote at all. But the truth is, all politicians seek their votes with simplistic slogans and banal bullshit, which is why we're in the shit we are.
