Morgan Gibbs-White

If he does, I would assume that wouldn’t activate if they qualify themselves.

I guess that would then fall under context and wording of the contract? It wont state that they cant sell him if they qualify but only if a champions league club activate it?

Think rather wait another year for him tel him don't sign a new contract so he will have 1 year left next summer then we might get him 30m less

Fans are not excited about this signing is bacause city has made enough mistakes the last few years buying mediocre players.
I blame the signing of kalvin phillips for such poor performance this season. When we needed a back up of rodri he was not there. This proves one bad signing can cost a team a season.
IF this season was good he would have been a fantastic signing.

Seems like when it's a good signing it's Pep, when it's a poor one it's Cheeky...
To the uneducated on here it seems to be this way. Some on here are acting like Viana is deliberately going out of his way to not sign Wirtz (who Pep apparently wants) and then will sign MGW because that's what he wants.

I appreciate that Nunes is not what we wanted but every post lumping him in with Phillips is harsh.

Mental isn't it? He's saved our arses this season - he was our best player for a couple of months on the wing then saved us by going to RB when Walker's form dived off a cliff and has been consistent ever since - but he's lumped in with one of our worst ever signings.

Ridiculous.

So when you say signing mediocre players you mean singular player.

Good job Viana is working under instructions from Pep then, so I guess this lad will be the downfall of Pep if it happens in your book.
Vianna is not under instructions from pep. Vianna is head of the transfer team he decdies. Pep will be consulted but ultimately it will be hugos say

After a decade of disaster, it's no wonder we don't believe.

I know you’re being facetious but we know that people aren’t saying we’ve been shit the last ten years, it’s that we’ve dropped off because our better players are ageing/left and most recent replacements haven’t been of the same standard.

We all want City to get back to the levels we saw when we had Yaya, David Silva, prime Gundogan and KDB, Sané, etc.

Signings like Phillips and Nunes were nowhere near that. MGW is nowhere near that either. We watched while arsenal got Rice.

Plus we still have no full backs.

We need two top class, quick fullbacks (Kerkez? Livramento?) and the very best available attacking midfielder (Wirtz) plus possibly a winger that actually scores goals (Nico Williams? Eze?)

We need ambition and some billy big bollocks transfers. We have the second highest income after Real Madrid - why not spend like that? If we don’t, we’ll have to endure another fucking scouse title next season.

Out of interest, what's the difference between signing Rice from West Ham and signing MGW from Forest? Both captains but one (MGW) has helped his team to fight above their apparent station and challenge for a Champions League place.

We can't act like Rice was a world beater when Arsenal snapped him up. There were a lot of comments on here saying we shouldn't pay £100m+ for him when we were linked. The same type of comments we're now seeing with MGW.

Players like Silva and Yaya are a rarity, let's face it. They don't just lie around anymore - Valencia needed to cash in on Silva and Yaya wasn't wanted at Barca. KDB was a world beater signing, yes, but we're trying to do the same with Wirtz this Summer too.

Sane was relatively unknown and was a gamble that paid off.

Prime Gundogan? Not necessarily, he was still injured and nobody really knew if he'd be able to recapture his form given just how bad his injury was (hence the price). Then he had another major one a few months after joining us. I see Nico G's signing as much of the same, he comes with good pedigree and is a bit of a risk like Gundo was. Just for different reasons.

I get your point - we need to lay down a marker a bit - but you can't do that with every signing.

For every Haaland there's an Alvarez (2022). For every KDB there's a Delph (2015). For every Yaya there's a Milner (2010). And for every potential Wirtz, there's a MGW. The list probably goes on.

I'd be more than happy with MGW signing. He'd bring energy and much-needed legs in midfield all while being comfortable on the ball, aggressive in the tackle and has an eye for goal. He'd compliment Nico G and Rodri well IMO as he is always looking for the ball and they're always looking to play it forward.
