and on these wankers go - sorry Lincolnshire but they will bankrupt your council filing vexatious legal cases on your taxes - read and weep
At present solar is providing 33% of the UK power consumption. Not that useless. Please explain what growth there is in building a solar farm, a useless piece of kit for the UK.
Jesus where the hell have you got that figure from, I work in energy conservation and carbon reduction last I heard solar provided less than 5% of UK energy. At present solar is providing 33% of the UK power consumption. Not that useless.
It's am instaneous value. The 5% is overall. You can't generate electricity from solar radiation when the sun goes to sleep.Jesus where the hell have you got that figure from, I work in energy conservation and carbon reduction last I heard solar provided less than 5% of UK energy.
You can store a lot of it.It's am instaneous value. The 5% is overall. You can't generate electricity from solar radiation when the sun goes to sleep.
I stand to be corrected but I'm extremely doubtful at any given moment on the sunniest of sunny days that solar gets anywhere near to producing a third of this countries energy needs. It's am instaneous value. At present we still need fossil fuels ( preferably our own)or we would be back in the dark ages. But we do need to advance with low carbon alternatives as soon as possible.![]()
'A major milestone': UK sets new solar generation record
NESO confirms solar generation topped 12GW for a half hour period yesterday, setting yet another renewables record for the UKwww.businessgreen.com
It can do. Although it is generally around 10%.
Even if it is only 5% instantaneous , it still makes an absolute nonsense of Reform saying they will block any planned solar investment. Do these idiots want to take us back to the dark ages?
I don't want to see the green belt lost to vast solar farms. But, used sensibly, solar can make up an integral part of the energy mix in the UK.
Renewable energy is wokeGenuine question(s)…
Why is green energy such as solar and wind, seen as more expensive than traditional means of production? How much more is it?
Why would people not want non fossil fuels (other than cost) being used alongside the traditional methods?
Thanks in advance for any answers

Thanks for your perspective and that’s where my viewpoint has started from.because the anti lobby lie. It isn't always more expensive. The thing is traditional resources are finite - as long as mankind is on earth there will be winds there will be sunshine though it depends on each given day so battery storage on a good day is more and more vital. Nuclear is one solution though everybody wants the 'leccy from one but nobody wants to live near a nuclear powerplant. I used to piss myself laughing when Johnson used to bang on about fantasy modular reactors - a small nuclear powerplant for every town. In a world where you have to bribe people to accept a line of new electricity pylons passing near their home can you imagine folks being cool about having a reactor at the end of the road? Not to mention the security risk - we currently have 5 nuclear operating sites and they need their own dedicated Police force ( the CNC ) to protect them - and they are armed. How would you protect say 1,000 small sites around the country?
The fossil fuel lobby is paid for by the industry - although they won't reveal it it is fairly common knowledge that 55 Tufton Street runs on coal and oil. They in turn "influence" the chain of haters - everyone from Political Parties to individual figures. Many commentators in the media just hold the view because thats the view of the people who write their pay cheque but people like Lowe and Tice are among the worst. Both are "Net Zero Madness" types but Lowe has a huge solar investment on his "farm" ( its really just a stable for Feargal O'Brien to produce race horses ) and Tice has huge investments in solar and lives in Dubai which is home to the worlds largest solar farm so presumably his penthouse is powered by solar when he is there.
Typically renewable energy is now cheaper to produce than fossil fuel derived energy in the UK.Thanks for your perspective and that’s where my viewpoint has started from.
Is there another view, from the other side of the debate, that I should take into account?
Installing enough to power an above-average sized three bedroom house, using traditional means as an auxiliary source, you're looking at ~£5,000 bare minimum. They are also susceptible, by design and usage, to damage, although the technology and builds have become much more dependable over the last decade. There's also the aesthetic issue, with some considering them an eye sore; but then that's purely objective.Genuine question(s)…
