Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We were literally the width of the crossbar away from a win and if Haaland had squared the pass for O'Reilly properly then it would have been a tap-in. Criticise Pep when we don't have the chances or look shaky in defence, but not when we've come inches from winning it but have lacked the quality to get it over the line.
This was against the worst team in premier league history. it's fine though, I half expected it. Roll on next Saturday.

That was fucking embaressing, yet, well deserved. Europa League, here we come!!!!
To be honest this team would be embarrassed in the CL so Europa may be more suited until Pep realises his tactics are now outdated. Teams play forward, pace and energy and directness these days, we have a team of slow, non creative, non forward thinking players.
Honestly new players will not improve us, huge changes to the coaching staff are needed. Bin the World Championship, play the kids and plan for next season. A very lucky win v Wolves with 2 shots on target and today’s disgraceful performance will make a mockery if we win it and call ourselfs world champions

Fucking about with the team again, made us disjointed. I’m sorry but McAtee will not make it here, totally anonymous and to think we kept Marmoush and Grealish on the bench.
How many lazy crosses did we swing in that were over hit or inaccurate? Bernardo and Lewis a yard off the pace all the game. Akanji playing the Rodri role is an insult. Our possession based game has become stagnant and uninspiring. Our best chance came from a direct break by Marmoush, pacy and direct. The pass, pass, pass then a lazy dink into the crowded box is too easy to defend. So frustrating

Embarrassing match thread and no doubt this thread will be too.

Pep put a team on the field who he thought had enough to beat Southampton, and Southampton got their tactics spot on and we just lacked a little bit of sharpness in the final third. It happens

Ref wasn't up to scratch and let them get away with spoiling tactics all game. The Ramsdale tactical time out was a joke, and Earl was rightly wound up by it. The referee also kept getting in the way of our passing lanes and slowed down our free kicks. He also seemed to be influenced by the crowd.

Absolutely fuming that VAR didn't even look at the penalty shout on O'Riley. Looked nailed on for me.
PiGMOL on behalf of the PL fucking us as per.

VAR did review it. Their player won the ball then Oreilly kick through him.

Should have gone for the jugular from the start.
Team selection was far too conservative.
Doku and Marmoush should have started.
Why bring Marmoush on so late?? came the closest to scoring and he was only in the pitch for 10 mins. Maybe Pep will learn from this and not underestimate the opposition.
Southampton were bound to be giving it all as the players are playing for their futures.
Still….at least it’s a point. Might have been worse.
Onwards and upwards.

A valuable point in our exciting quest for Champions League football next season …. if not then I’m hearing the Europa League is ‘where it’s at’ these days?

We made four changes in the second half and still didn't score, which suggests the team selection wasn't the issue.
Doku was the only one that had time to actually do something. The rest of the subs would’ve been lucky to get a touch on the ball.

Well at least we will be saved from a week talking about keeping KDB and starting him in the Cup Final
