Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I had a bad feeling about this today. They've flattered to decieve over the past few weeks. Semi final - basically saved by the post, same with Villa. Gotten very lucky and today we showed that in actuality they can't create shit. Piss poor. Unacceptable. Cunts.

UCL isn’t fucked. We win our final 2, we are fine. Chelsea and Newcastle play tomorrow. Worst we will be after this weekend is 4th. Chelsea and Nottingham play final day so one of those two will drop points also. We win out, we are in ucl. Big ask but we can do this

We should still get it.

But of all the games left, away at bottom of the league should’ve been the stonewaller.

We were literally the width of the crossbar away from a win and if Haaland had squared the pass for O'Reilly properly then it would have been a tap-in. Criticise Pep when we don't have the chances or look shaky in defence, but not when we've come inches from winning it but have lacked the quality to get it over the line.

We didn’t stretch them at all but they started to tire and panic late on. Marmoush almost bailed us out but that we should never have needed it. We created nothing until late. That’s down to team selection. Pep got it horribly wrong and it may cost us champions league football.

Hoping this style is just to get us over the line because fuck me it's a chore watching us. Been some pathetic performances this season and this one is up near the top

After the run we have been on without him,
Pep should never have started Haaland......
or Foden.
In fact if we had started with a completely different x11 we would have probably won

Ortega
Nunes
Khusanov
Reis
O'Reilly
Gonzalez
Grealish
Bobb
Savinho
Marmoush
Doku

Not great but had the ref actually applied the laws of the game we would have been up against 10 for 52 mins. Can someone explain what the rationale for not issuing a second yellow was? Totally inexplicable.

Doesn’t Pep and the team and the club directors realise that no fucker is going to come to play Europa League football. We don’t attract the best players who want to play in the CL. The new NS will be an empty white elephant.
Fucking rubbish today. We’ve won the last 4 games without Haaland and an out of form Foden.
Why change it? Smacked of we’re champions and you are shit and we will win.
Bournemouth and Fulham will be hard if that’s the clubs attitude.

Team worked perfectly just one of those games where we couldn't score. Calm down you fannys
Oh yeah, "worked perfectly" what... except for the tiny detail of scoring a fking goal man. But who needs goals in football, right? It’s not like we’re fighting for top 4 or anything. Let’s all just clap for the "effort" while we bottle it against a bad relegation side. If that’s your standard for "perfect", no wonder we’re in this mess. But sure, tell everyone to calm down and accept mediocrity - as long as the lads "tried", right? Pathetic.

CL in doubt after that, 2 very tough teams to play, and 2 wins needed.
After letting that shower from Trafford win the cup last year, we’ll look pretty f*****g stupid if they’re in the CL and we’re not.
Too many half hearted performances and shite team selections, Pep take some time out and get your head into gear again please, the performance today has been par for the course to often this season, and it’s been easy to spot as soon as the team sheet lands.

I am the last person to come on here and slag off Pep. Or the players. Anybody who doubts it — check my post history.

But there is completely justified anger on here tonight. Southampton have been abject all season, one of the worst teams ever to play in the Premier League. So let's cut the shit about “clowns”, “fanny wipes”, “entitlement” and all the rest of the usual insults.

And by the way, to try to be a bit constructive: I had questions about Pep's initial team selection, but hey, he's the boss, he picks the team. But equally, when you see that something's clearly going wrong, something's clearly not working, you change it. You don't sit on your arse till the 75th minute, when you have many millions of pounds worth of footballer on your bench. That is the unforgiveable part. Marmoush comes on with five fucking minutes of normal time left, and promptly hits the bar.

Still in our hands.... Think we all thought, players and Pep included this was a given so even a below par performance would give us a win. Unfortunately they played the park the bus tactic which we have forgotten how to breakdown this season. Had enough chances to put the game to bed but just didn't happen. May be the point that seals CL qualification as long as we win our last couple of games.
But when you've just gone around 180 minutes without scoring (I think we scored after 5 in the first match?) against the 2nd-worst team in PL history, the final two games are hardly gimmes, are they?
