40 years ago today

My younger brother was nearly crushed against the white wall at front of the kippax

We got moved into the section for the away fans as Charlton fans hadn’t arrived due to a crash on the motorway

The look on Charltons faces when they saw hundreds of kids and teenagers in their section

I went into The North Stand expecting to be able to find an empty seat somewhere.
It was that rammed that I had no chance of finding one, so I ended up sat on the terracing,in front of a concrete wall.
Same as me, had a ticket for the maine stand and hundreds sat/stood on the steps, dangerous as fuck when you look back.

What a day, on the pitch after the game. The noise in The Kippax, when the first goal went in, was almost up there with the Aguero goal.

40 years bloody hell, still going with several of the lads I was there with that day. Sadly a few are no longer with us.

Thanks for showing the video, brought back some great memories of a time when you really didn't know what would happen at Maine Road.
Remember getting in the Charlton Athletic pen (as a Welshman, my accent helped) at the top left hand area of the Kippax - as the queues were massive for the rest of the Kippax.
A couple of queries I can't remember the answers of :-

* Why did City sell Paul Simpson - he was a youth player who was brilliant for City.
* Why was the open area between the Kippax and the Platt Lane so empty at kick off, as it was rammed later ?
* Did anyone else get in the Charlton pen - as that filled up as well.

A great occasion, but sadly scarred by the Bradford fire disaster, which is often overlooked and forgotten...
