The 2025 Rebuild of City Squad

The real harsh reality was again brought home in yesterdays performance....

The truth is this squad is finished and now not good enough to even over th course of a season challenge for top 4

There are at least 8 0r 9 players who arguably for different reasons need replacing and that aint happening over the course of one summer transfer window even if we still had Txixi...with Vianna it could take years to get back to anywhere near where we were and looking at the potential incomgins the it doesnt beuild confidence in him......

The players that shouldnt have a future here

KDB - argument is over - greatest ever player but at times he can hardly strike a football correctly - tis been there infront of everyone for over a year.
Gundo - a few recent better performance but like KDB the writing is on the wall and the worrying thing is we know he is staying
Stones -never fit - no use in him being here - rolls royce defender but now cant even get on the pitch for a game before being off again
Ake - as above
Grealish - for me he is the most expensive mistake we have made in recent years....I questioned his signing at the time in terms of attitude and ability - a bang average player who in my opinion has been lucky to be part of the squad. This signing (which is not his fault) set the tone for the prices we then went on to have to pay for other players....that is on Txixi and the club
Nunes - not good enough in any position to be a squad player
Rico Lewis - same as Nunes - not good enough in either position to be a squad player.

Serious questions arund another few
Savihno - looks awful in front of goal....can create but erratic with it....has time but there are doubts he can make the step up
Doku - Love the guy -his endless willingness to try and make things happen is needed - but does he really have the quality....? Probably good enough to be a squad player
Berbardo - the only reason at the moment he isnt in the group above is he stil has the physical ability and willingness but we have known his head has been turned previously and he could easily want that again after this season.
Kova - worringly our best midfielder here this season - but him as a first choice says everything.

Thats 11 players that we have serious questions about one way or another!!! - that is not doable in a transfer window....not even close

You could also add Ruben Dias into that list as he has been way off it this season - level below most of our top centre halves in terms of actual ability with the ball - excellent leader however (normally - yesterday's comments aside)

Then we move onto the signings:

Reis - not sure of why we signed him - obviously a project player but he looks a long way off physically
Khusonov - looks very good BUT how does he fit in? - clearly he doesnt at present...probably not a fullbak for Pep so it will have to be at centre half
Marmoush - very good player but again with Haaland around how does he fit in. HE IS NOT THE NUMBER 10 WE NEED...so I can only see him fitting in playing from a wide position
Nico Gonzales - looks good bt aint playing - how does he fit in with Rodri back? Id imagine both can play as either one can play further forward BUT is that the plan?

The we look at the links we are getting:

Wirtz - the one player available that could replace KDB - now obviously we cant control that he will end up at Bayern - that was prety much written in the stars from the start...HOWEVER our plan B's and C's previously when this has happened havent been great.
MGW - doest inspire confidence....has legs and running ability....but realisticaly does this calibre of player win titles - its got the Grealish mistake written all over this again

Cambiaso - looks very good - gone quiet on him but hopefully we get the deal done

Links to lots of young players who could or could not make it.....not what is needed at present with the squad being low on quality

The biggest worry is not just the performances this season - its the lack of quality in the players on the pitch...Yesterday vs Southampton, people can complain about effort etc (and you would be right) BUT the lack of quality was also evident......some of that was lower midtable level and has been for bg chunks of the season
Sad when there are no David Silva’s lined up

I’ve come round the conclusion that our period of dominance is over. It’s football. It’s cyclical. We had a golden period of players managed by the best to ever do it in this country.

And that’s fine. We will still win the odd trophy but we won’t be challenging for league titles on a consistent basis imo. It was a perfect storm and now that storm has fizzled out. That’s life

Looks that way, we will lose the remaining world class players during the next few windows if that’s the case

Always the best way of judging a target.
It's a big position in our side, Walker arguably the best RB the PL has seen, go out and buy the best, no more vanity projects please.

We once went out and bought the best and from our nearest rivals, weakening them in the process.

Last summer we could and for me should have bought Bruno from the barcodes, PL proven, class act and a player that wanted us badly and again in doing so would have weakened one of our up and coming rivals.

Should have bought Rice the list goes on

I am a bit concerned with the players were being linked with. I've not seen any yet that remotely get me excited or I feel are our level.
Why are you concerned about nonsense being spread by know fuck all journalists on twitter?

Sit back and wait and see where we are come the first game of the season.

Reality is, there's very few players in world football capable of replacing and reaching the standards that some in our team have set, even fewer available on the market. So we are going to have to do what we can and take calculated risks that someone like Gibbs-White for example can make the step up when in a different environment

Sad when there are no David Silva’s lined up
Not lined up maybe because I can’t think of any player that is like Silva.Funny thing is there are many posters posting about bringing back ex academy players,or saying we should have kept and played certain academy players. Many of them the same posters that want to sign new players, but don’t consider a player like Bobb may be that player given the chance.
I have no idea if he is but if we decide with no Wirtz to give him the chance, that excites me along with O’Reilly and the January intake alongside any signings we do make.

Could of, should of, didn't!!

That rice bid was the strangest thing this club have done since the takeover, something so very wrong when the players clearly wanted Arsenal and we would not pay what West Ham wanted and indeeed bed less that Arsenals last offer.

Is this 115 in play, it does make you wonder, and the longer this verdict is taking the more I worry our "irrefutable evidence" may not be what we claim.

We need quality players coming in not average ones, yes take a gamble but on academy players not £50 mill punts playing in weaker leagues. We definitely need the finished product in a 10 role someone who is or looks like will be world class

Well if that’s the case gamble with the eds lads instead of being ripped off for average players because there isn’t anyone else

It wasn’t strange at all, it was always clear the player preferred arsenal and staying in London. When Arsenal wouldn’t meet the asking price we got involved. As soon as Arsenal increased their bid when we got involved we know he would go there because it was where he wanted to go.
Nothing about it was complicated.

To get the best out of Marmoush, Haaland, Foden, Doku, and Savinho, we need to create more space and to do that we need a more mobile midfield. However, midfielders such as Bernardo, Kovacic, Gundogan, Lewis, and Gonzalez are not best suited to running up and down the park for ninety minutes; I’m not even sure prime Rodri was let alone the version that will return. At the same time, if we do play more expansively, players that many want discarded, Grealish and McAtee, might just thrive playing in more space and with different responsibilities, much like Palmer has at Chelsea. Not advocating for their retention, just pointing out that we shouldn’t readily discard players when it’s still unclear how we intend to play from next season forward. One thing appears clear, we cannot remain a hybrid of two systems, as that plays to neither strength.

We’re now ending the second season of the rebuild that started after the treble. Does the club want to accelerate the rebuild or to continue to do it incrementally?

It’s obvious Khusanov will fit in when we sell the other CBs. Doku and Savio will improve. I think we are all just a bit emotional from yesterday

What makes you think Savihno will improve? - Some players never reach the next level
or Doku - he has been here a while now - i think he has hit his limit and I like him as a player as he offers something that noone else in our squad has

Agree on Khusonov

Some journalists are reliable, some aren't. MGW appears to be the main target, that's been reported by Gaughan, Sam Lee and Ornstein who are the go to journalists. I get he's homegrown but i'm just not convinced on him one bit.

Hopefully come the new season we'll have recruited well but after the last 2 seasons of recruitment and the players we've so far been linked with, I'm a little concerned of what we will sign. Hopefully Viana makes a good 1st impression, he's come in at a time when there's alot of work to be done and there's a bit of pressure to get the right players.

Rice was open to coming to us as well, but wouldn't state he only wanted to come to us - something we ask for as it helps our position in negotiation. If we matched or exceeded Arsenal's offer then we would have known what he truly preferred. In that regard, it may still have been Arsenal as they had been putting in the groundwork while we chased Bellingham.

Haha forgot about Bellingham that’s maybe a blessing in disguise but no getting away from the fact he’s talented and makes are back up of Nunes look even more rediculous

With our present situation Bobb is becoming better with every passing day.

He looked superb in preseason but so did the likes of several of the young players but as this time he is a prospect who has lost 9 months of his career to a very serious injury at a vital time in his career at our club.
