Again, he is not a left winger. And certainly not one that should be hugging the line.

He has been poor, but thd formation, the turgid build up, the forcing him to hug the line are all detrimental to his greatest strengths. On the run in a counter attack, cutting inside from the left.

Pep's decisions make him worse.
This guy has always been a winger, man, you get me? I don’t know why some people keep trying to shoehorn him into midfield when it’s obvious he just doesn’t have it. He can’t pass. You’ve seen it, the ball bounces five meters away from him every time. He can’t even control a simple ball without it bouncing off like a pinball. You need serious ball control and passing ability to play in midfield, and he just doesn’t have that. Stop forcing it.

Foden shouldn’t be on the right wing, if there isn’t an overlap. It’s absolutely pointless.

Agreed.

Look at the opportunity, if Foden goes on the outside then what’s on after that? Fuck all.

Doesn’t change my point. He should be attacking the space that’s there.

If you’re criticising him for that, then it’s purely an agenda. You’re looking for issues that don’t exist.

Christ. It’s not an agenda about one single-second moment of 1 game. It’s a consistent thing whereby he takes the easy option and recycles the ball instead of trying to make things happen.

View attachment 156621That’s how he’s received the ball.

What’s on for him there?!

He absolutely did the correct thing.

Is that a joke? Or are you purposely ignoring the moment I’m talking about?

If we’ve got wires crossed and you think I’ve been talking about the time he got the ball back from CE, then yes, you are right.

For reference.

What the fuck are you on about?!

That’s fuck all to do with Foden if their pass is played to feet! Why isn’t the pass played into the space.

Foden’s clearly on the move forwards there.

And stops his run forcing CE to pass to his feet. Instead of attacking the space. Which was my original point. Finally, we’re getting somewhere.

Also, ‘what the fuck are you on about?!’ - relax. It’s a debate on a fan forum. Take a step back.

You’re wrong.

Look the image where you’ve paused it. The pass is being played as Foden’s moving forwards.

Foden stops his run for the pass. Not the other way round .

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

In my opinion, you’re wrong. CE has to pass to Foden’s feet because he doesn’t make the run into space. He goes to. Then stops instantly. If he had made the run, CE would’ve been forced to pass it there or been able to turn on it because Foden will have dragged players out of position by making such an incisive run. Rather than hanging back and taking the safe option.

Vitally, my screenshot isn’t CE passing it. It’s him controlling it and having to take a touch because the run wasn’t made.

As soon as foden came on I wanted nunes on too. The first play he had when he had fucking akanji overlapping set the tone for a shit show. On the right.
I mentioned this on the Pep thread. Absolutely mental he didn’t see that was the obvious thing to do once Foden was on. Foden still offered fuck all as usual these days mind but at least that might have gave him the chance to come inside and get at least one shot off.

Foden has had to stop his run so he’s available to receive the pass.

Pause the video at the point the pass is made, if Foden isn’t where he is, there’s no pass on.

You made a point of saying that clip highlights why Foden’s not playing well. If Foden makes the run into space rather than making himself available for the pass, then there no shot on target at the end of that move.

He goes to run in behind then stops. If he’s playing on the wing then he needs to be trying to get in behind his full back at every opportunity.

He should be (as should every other attacker) trying to get into space and attack areas that can cause a goal. Not lurch on the corner of the penalty area playing 5 yard passes.

He’s not alone.
Yeah but there’s a very obvious reason why he doesn’t. He’s not got the pace to anymore. Compare him now to about 3 years ago when even on the left wing he could leave fullbacks for dead with a burst of pace on the outside of them
