Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Doku had two defenders with him every time he got the ball but was forced to cut back or cross with his weaker foot, and it was a similar story for Savinho
Yep - that's the fundamental flaw of inverted wingers. Only a good idea if you have exceptional players in the position, who can take advantage of the fewer amount of chances they'll be given. We don't though, do we?

You're wasting a large percentage of your width before you start, and when you're breaking quickly, the time it takes for the winger to come back onto his stronger foot is enough for any professional athlete to cover 10 metres or more, so that your advantage has gone and the tempo drops. Sounds familiar, that one.

It wouldn't be an issue if players were taught to use both feet - as most of us were when we were kids - but those times have long gone.

Progress, my arse.

To be honest i wasn't too upset at the final whistle. Even if we had won yesterday wouldn't polish over the poor season we've had so can't wait for the season to end now.
Time to rebuild in the summer & come back stronger next season providing the Club World Cup hasn't taken too much out of them.

watched FA official highlight reel last night when i got home guess which bit is missing what have they gort to hide

disappointed over all we really do need to make keeper work more no triangles to make space, golf chips and center back play makers we need pace in midfield .

twatwell might not of seen punch outside box but linesman or do they just fave which way ref wants play to go these days. he shouldve book keeper timewasting but that ment he couldnt have a rest between plays and this players falling to the ground for nothing just get on with game i guess more shit scared since forest debacle 10 minute yeah maybe more

We've got too many tier 2 players as it is, but people cry when you point this out.
The wingers are an obvious example: Sterling was as frustrating as fuck, yet he contributed significantly more than Doku, Savinho and Nunes. Leroy Sane and Mahrez were also better than what we currently have.
Current players look good in flashes but in the past we had players putting in top performances week after week after week.
It's not all down to the wingers though. Doku had two defenders with him every time he got the ball but was forced to cut back or cross with his weaker foot, and it was a similar story for Savinho. Palace could just get goal-side of our players to block everything.
We have huge issues on either flank. I cant believe some people cant see this. Doku should be 3rd choice, he can come on and impact games but flatters to decieve most of the time when starting. Savinho should be 4th choice at best, 2 goals in 44 games now. Where do you even start with that? As you say compared to some wingers of the past they are light years behind them!

Unfortunately, they are currently the starting first choice wide players and we are paying a heavy price for that!! Things need to change there

Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.

Relatively neutral here, A TEAM beat a collection of individuals yesterday. There's a photo on facebook of Foden, his Mrs and one of his son's all glammed up for some event or other. Doubt there's similar of Palace players. Too much
celebrity status, has it all gone to there heads?

The first paragraph isn't correct and that isn't the law - it's the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball.

Hence why players have been sent off for bringing down players running on to through balls etc. You don't have to have control of the ball.

The second paragraph about Foden is just a bit of nonsense - have you checked the social media of all the Palace players? Does it make any difference. We were shite but as a team, we collectively created more, had a pen and were denied a clear goalscoring opportunity by an egregious error. If we had won, would you still have a belief that we are a team of individuals?

I honestly can't get over the decision not to send him off. What's the fucking point anymore, and I didn't even leave my house to watch it. Really feel for the folk that spent a small fortune to go yesterday and watch that shit show unfold. Week after week we are just officiated differently, and throw that in with a bunch of overpaid, can't be arsed lads, a manager that lets face it is starting to show signs he's had enough and a club that no longer gives a shit about the match going fans, this season has left me feeling like, what's the fucking point?

I'll be reet by Tuesday afternoon.

Losing to Man Utd in the Cup Final was worse. I don't begrudge Palace fans their win.

When will be back again?

Half the reason I went yesterday as it could be a while. Pretty much said that on here when I bought my ticket.

We should have won yesterday. Palace scored with what the majority of fans feared. Quick counter against the run of play on their first opportunity. Thought we were playing quite well until then. Goal made Palace only sit even deeper. Time wasting was off the scale and some of the worst I've ever seen. Think some are purely accepting defeat better than they would usually as Palace aren't seen as a rival and rather irrelevant.

Of course Utd was worse. Not just for the fact it was them, but the arrogance of not holding off the celebrations a few days in the lead up to it. As bad as we've been at stages this season that first 45 against Utd was the worst I've seen us play in an a very long time. The cause of that, I believe, was the preparation/or lack there of. Very unprofessional.

Have to dust ourselves off and secure a CL spot now. The unimaginable of us not getting in that and the rags somehow making it via the back door despite being in Paul Jewell/Derby form makes me feel nauseous.

It was all set up for Palace even before kick off. ITV spent two hours telling us that Palace deserved it pre-kick off because they'd never won a major trophy.

Game kicked off and ref gave them everything. Keeper comes out for the clearest red you'll ever see and he doesn't even get asked to go to the monitor! Then the same keeper saves a crucial penalty.

Game needs to be looked at
I honestly feel that the media hate towards us and officiating now go hand in hand.

We all know that the Palace keeper would of been sent off if this incident had occurred vs the rags or dippers.
1000%

Story of the season wasn't it. Had all the possession, created a couple of decent chances but ultimately too passive and slow in the build up. We've got too many players who pass the ball from side to side and don't take enough chances. The wingers (especially Savinho) rightly getting some stick, but it's tough when you're 2 on 1 and getting a sideways ball to feet rather a ball in behind or a quick ball into feet with the chance to run 1 on 1 at the full back. We have to sign some creativity in midfield and some actual full backs this summer. It's a must. Feels like we've missed an opportunity for Frimpong tbh, like we did when the Dippers signed MacAllister. I hope that doesn't come back to haunt us.

It feels like the dynamic of the team has been ruined to fit in Haaland and Akanji. The false 9 system and Nunes and NOR at full back was working well for us, so why change it?

Luckily I only live an hour from Wembley, so just the scandalous ticket price that fucked me. Feel sorry for anyone who had additional hundreds on top of that for travel etc. Absolutely sickening performance and not worth of our time, effort and money. Still pissed off.
If I was in charge I'd be refunding everyone's ticket.

What sticks in my head is Haaland getting pissed off at the crowd, throwing his arms around wanting to get some noise going. How about you actually play some football you lanky freak.

No more footie for me this season now. Can't be arsed

I'm in exactly the same traffic. Been here around 90mins already, no sign of what's happened or when we're likely to be moving again.

Just keep telling myself that no matter how bad my day has been, it's likely someone up ahead has had a worse day. Seen multiple police cars and ambulances go past us on the hard shoulder to whatever has happened up ahead.
I got out my car to stretch my legs after being sat there for about 90 mins and there was a City coach about 200 - 300 metres further back and a load of them had got off and were singing City songs, which was a bit surreal but put a smile on my face.

There were also some people playing football on the other side of the M1 which was empty, while they waited for the traffic to be allowed to move again.

We were stuck there for 2 and a bit hours.

The penalty was “ scandalous?” Gotta disagree there chum and in no way even comparable to that handball by Henderson.
I'd agree it was nowhere as bad a decision as the pen.
