Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

Fair enough. I need to watch it back more closely. It was certainly hard to see from our end in the stadium. My point remains though about Atwell. Why didn't he check the monitor?

Oh absolutely. He didn't because VAR came up with that fudged cover-up about possible GSO, not obvious GSO. The only way he goes to an OFR if if VAR recommend it.

I had to check too, but Gvardiol's pass went from box-to-box. It's no surprise he was some way back.
The linesman is about 5 yards behind (not being as quick as Haaland...), but looks to have a decent view. It's possible he couldn't tell if it was glove or boot, but he should have known it was outside the area.

Yes you have seen a downgrade
VAR looked because it was deemed to be a clear and obvious error by the ref in warding a red and they can look at an incident where a yellow has been given and advise the ref to look and he then awards a red

What they can't do is look at an incident and recommend a yellow if the ref didn't take any on-field action, the Henderson incident being an example of this What VAR got wrong is thinking the ball was going away from goal they didn't seem to understand it was Henderson who batted the ball away they got it wrong so, yes were were shafted
That’s what I said 2 mins later !

As many have posted I would love to hear the conversation between atwell and stockley park ?

Not just Attwell.
Cann was linesman at The Swamp that day and Assistant VAR on Saturday.
The fact he is an ex Palace player too is pure coincidence and obviously had no bearing on him failing to uphold the LOTG because the club he has an affiliation to benefitted.
Bloody hell. I am not usually a conspiracy theorist. But that really does look bad. Atwell didn't look at the screen. If he had done in the first case he would have seen Rashford shielding the ball for about 15 yards and then putting off Ederson to help Fernandez score. If he watched the screen on Saturday it is obviously a red card. What the fuck is going on?

This is what football is now.
Bent as fuck.

As long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot (which we are capable of this season), the officials performance in our last 2 games of the season is going to be scrutinised to the hilt.

I am more annoyed that the penalty wasn't re-taken. Henderson goes early and is clearly off his line.

What I can’t get my head around is are they acknowledging it was handball but ‘in their view’ it didn’t take away a goal scoring chance hence wasn’t punished?!? Handball is handball surely!!
You can't go back to just award a free kick and a yellow card though. If it is missed by the officials then VAR cannot ask them to do that, but what they should have obviously said is get that red out your pocket you twat and send him off

Chris Foy,retired PL referee on the radio yesterday said VAR concentrated on where the ball went after the handball. They thought this made it a possible goal scoring opportunity.
That is a red herring, where the handball occurred is where you judge whether it is a goal scoring opportunity and that was almost centre of the goal.
Chris Foy....

Another bent scouse ****. Never forgiven him for sending Vinny off in the cup derby at ours that won that game for them.

I once went to a talk by Howard Webb. He explained the pressure he was put under, by FIFA, to ensure he didn't "spoil the game " in the WC final. Hence de Jong never got sent off. Wonder why these organisations don't put pressure on the officials to implement the laws of the game.
It's been going on for years.

Jeff Winter was told by the FA he didn't get a cup final because they didn't trust him not to ruin the game. As in ref it properly.

I posted on X that "Atwell will ruin the game"

I wasn't wrong. I still have no idea how VAR did not tell him to send Henderson off.

No excuse for our play in the final 3rd but probably what riled me most about Saturday.

We would have easily won that game with 11 v 10.

True story
He was a member of my Gym many years ago when he was still reffing.
I approached him and asked why he sent VK off. He asked staff to call the police as he said I was harrassing him.
He really was a shithouse ****
