I’m not sure that’s true. He was one of the linesmen in our game against Palace in the league a few weeks ago (and Gillett was the onfield ref).

If the last defender with only the goalkeeper behind him, deliberately handles the ball to stop a one on one with the keeper, then that is seen as preventing a goalscoring opportunity 99% of the time. The fact that the VAR didn't think ours was a goalscoring opportunity defies logical- explanation, when Haaland was about to create a one on none attack. The rules of football is that a goal keeper cannot handle the ball outside the 18 yard box, there’s no interpretation of it with if it’s a goal scoring chance. Is his hand in a position to avoid contact with the ball? No, he’s taking it away from Haaland’s outstretched foot intentionally.
In what world is that not deliberate hand ball and a red card? It’s manipulation of a game as Palace would have been playing for long periods with one player less. The club seems to be too nice with PGMOL when we end up on the wrong end of a horror show from the ref. The media lackies come out to bat for the dippers when it’s them but fuck all gets said when it’s us.
Neither is a great look and both are arguably corruption depending on how we choose to define corruption. You can look at it two ways. One is it was a corrupt attempt to fuck us over and the other is they shat themselves at the thought of a goalkeeper being sent off early in an FA Cup final.
If that's the case, why have an Assistant VAR?
It's naive to think Cann or any other Assistant VAR does't have any involvement.
They wouldn't be there or listed as a match official if they weren't involved.
I think someone alluded to him not being allowed to do the semi’s in one of these threads.
We will not say fuck allYet again the Club has acted like a tortoise and shrunk into their shell.
I want them to blast PGMOL about that disgraceful decision.
Gillet should shoulder the blame, but surely he is being influenced by Cann, who is a much more experienced official. As someone else pointed out, Cann isn't there just to pass around the chocolate digestives.Neither Atwell or Cann were predominately to blame (the former I don’t think was to blame at all).
Jarred Gillet is the main one to blame who made the wrong decision.
This -
- watching the television footage while the VAR is busy with a 'check' or a 'review'
- keeping a record of VAR-related incidents and any communication or technology problems
- assisting the VAR's communication with the referee, especially communicating with the referee when the VAR is undertaking a 'check'/'review' e.g. to tell the referee to 'stop play' or 'delay the restart' etc.
- recording time 'lost' when play is delayed for a 'check' or a 'review'
- communicating information about a VAR-related decision to relevant parties
The VAR referee is the one that makes the decisions.

Jarred Gillett is a referee I had a high regard for. However, Haarland criticised him for disallowing a goal he scored against Spurs in FebruaryNeither Atwell or Cann were predominately to blame (the former I don’t think was to blame at all).

Absolute disgrace mate. Red card all day. The only reason the ball was heading away from goal was because Henderson swatted it that way. Despite what pgmol put out there is nothing in the laws that state "obvious ". It only has to be an opportunity to score. I don't blame the ref for not seeing it as it happened so fast but VAR should have bailed him out. Afterall I was there and didn't have a clue Henderson had handled it. Only knew exactly what happened at half time when friends started texting me.Hi Richard, I've not read all the thread but what was your opinion of the decision on Saturday? I'll invite @Vic to answer as well, as he is also a qualified referee.
They were going to reverse the on field decision and award the goal til she piped up…For those who say the assistant VAR has no influence I give you Sian Massey - Ellis. And the liner who said 'it's a handball by Haaland' from 40 yards away was one Darren Cann. He sees a handball from 40 yards through a couple of defenders but doesn't flag for an unobstructed view of one from half the distance!!

Match Officials Mic'd Up: Why VAR couldn't overturn Erling Haaland handball decision
Speaking on Match Officials Micd Up, PGMOL chief Howard Webb explains why Erling Haalands goal against Tottenham Hotspur was disallowed for a handball in the build-up.www.skysports.com

To add to my disappointment I woke up on Saturday with a swollen ankle. No idea how I did it. Walked round Wembley all afternoon. This afternoon been to the hospital and they have confirmed my ankle fractured in 2 places

The bare minimum outcome for this should have been a referee review.
After the Fernandes offside goal, two years ago. Webb went on TV a couple of days later, in jovial mood, laughingly declaring that we would never see that decision given again.
It's all a big joke where City is concerned. Because of our success, or the narrative surrounding us, we are fair game for unfavorable treatment, and there are no consequences.
The law states 'obvious goal-scoring opportunity'.Absolute disgrace mate. Red card all day. The only reason the ball was heading away from goal was because Henderson swatted it that way. I remember that too.Stupid question. Is it a straight red if the goalkeeper handles the ball outside his area? I remember Claudio Bravo getting sent off at Barcelona for catching the ball outside his area. Don’t think it was going in or a DOGSO but I could be wrong - it was a few years ago and I’m a bit of an FOC these days!
