A few posters on here thinks Guardiola will play Khusanov tomorrow, when he probably should have played him on Saturday when we needed pace against the very quick Palace team. Their goal came from Munoz going like the clappers down the wing, with O’Reilly caught out of position. With Khusanov at right back he might have intercepted the ball when it came across because he would have caught up with play quicker than Akanji. My thoughts, anyhow.
Goal had nothing to do with pace. O'Reilly was simply caught napping. Had he put on a sprint at any point during his 40 yard jog back he'd have been in a position to intercept or block or at the very least make the cross harder to make. akanji wasn't done by a lack of pace either he was there it was just a great ball as he had all the time in the world to make it and a well timed run and finish.

Stop talking sense ;)

.....as for tomorrow, as long as Savinho, Doku, McAtee don't start, hopefully we'll be OK.

We need someone tomorrow to do the Rodri ball progression role. Seems like nearly every time on Saturday tgat Akanji and Dias brought the ball forward and frankly neither of them can hit a good pass, Akanji in particular just gets to the edge of the area and passes it sideways. Gvardiol is the only central defender who can pick a pass

CALLING INTERNATIONAL RESCUE

I'm currently in the north of Corfu trying to find somewhere to watch the blues tomorrow and I'm struggling.....I know it's a long shot but does anyone know of any bars showing the game even if I need to travel south to Corfu town , getting desperate now

I agree on O'Reilly sleeping on Munoz's run, but Akanji could've been much more aggressive in stepping to the ball before Eze. Going to ground would've been overkill and could've resulted in a penalty, but at least go shoulder to shoulder with Eze and do what you can to keep him from getting onto the end of it.

Agree with that. Akanji's challenge looked weak to me. Otherwise, I thought he had a good game. Palace's goal — 16th minute, let's not forget — was their only real chance. I thought overall the defence did their job, including O'Reilly. The big problem was a lack of real creativity in midfield, with everybody deferring to Kev, and Kev having something of a stinker of a game (didn't stop them continuing to defer to him right to the end, though).

Can I say something that is probably total heresy? Now I have loved that Belgian — the best midfielder I've seen in sky blue along with King Col and Merlin — but his going is in fact something of a relief to me. The team has got to be rethought. It was time. That's Pep's job and he's got two years to do it.

I actually don't think Akanji was that bad either, but him and Haaland have been forced into the lineup for no damn good reason. We did create some good chances, but the finishing just wasn't there.

I'm with you on the above on de Bruyne. He's just getting a farewell tour and it's making the team worse.

I think it was more important to play with a DM, palace's only out ball was the long ball for Mateta, a DM would have read the long ball and put a front screen on him, he wouldn't have had a kick if Rodri was fit.

Think Semenyo will probably be the main danger of them countering in behind our left back again this game.

I thought the goal was more O’Reilly than Akanji. He should have thrown himself at that cross. He isn’t a left back.

I thought he looked really tired second half and whilst he has been great, I think we are the one game too many for him now and he shouldn’t play tomorrow or at Fulham.

Whoever he plays, tell them to press hard and when they do win the ball back try and attack with pace without letting the defence set up. They could also try not always going wide, we could also risk through balls, and maybe try shots from 20 yards if we're facing a 5-5-0 formation. Any chance of that?

Look it’s simple. We win both our games, and we get a surprising third spot. I was at the game yesterday, and we were nothing like as dire as some on here are saying. (The usual post-apocalyptic posts: Pep is dead; the team is dead; God is dead). The entire ninety minutes turned on absolutely marginal decisions. I don’t remember Ortega having one serious save to make (should he have stopped the goal? No. should the defence have stopped it? Yes. We were dead level with It.)
If I’m Pep I pick exactly the same team, possibly substituting Nico for Kev. And I say, “Now go and make that wrong right.”
whilst i agree ortega may not be expected to save that shot, our keepers never save ANY of those types of shots.

they are both so fucking average at shot stopping its staggering

Can already picture KDB doing a speech to a near empty stadium cause everyone fucked off home because we’ve lost.
Win or lose it'll be 10 o'clock at night and a lot of folk with work, school etc. the next day just won't stay. They should do the honours fur KDB before the game, he deserves a full house.

Thankfully a good few of Bournemouth’s team will be protecting themselves and not wanting to jeopardise moves already in discussion. We just need an early goal and go at them full throttle.

3-1 City.
