Morgan Gibbs-White

The standards are on the floor if we're trying to convince ourselves this guy's a good signing. We've gone from some of the greatest midfielders the Premier League has ever seen to guys that are just totally off the level.

We've gone from signing the top young talent in Europe with scope to develop to overpriced fodder in our league. Gibbs-White is 25 and has never played in Europe, has had one England cap and is in a team that plays a completely different style of football.

We should be doing better.
This is a big issue with many of you. You think we are going to replace KDB. We aren’t. It’s impossible. We’ve had one of the best players ever to grace the league, let alone the club. Whoever we sign it will be a lesser player.

Does that mean doom and gloom? No. I happen to think his energy will be beneficial and then it’s up to Pep to make it work in an adaption. He’s a very good player. KDB is above that. They are no more KDBs. We’ve had him his entire top level career.

Whoever we bring in we back.

I don’t know the issues with Grealish but he’s shown he can play central. With MGW maybe that can work?

People need to stop replacing KDB. It isn’t happening

I definitely do think he's talented enough to contribute here as well as being tough and hard nosed. I don't think he's any worse than kovacic.

Are our standards so far on the floor now that we want to sign players that aren't any worse than Kovacic?

How about we buy players that are on the very top level? I mean, that's what we've been used to signing over the years which has made us so successful.

The club haven’t and don’t have the appetite since the treble win. It’s almost like that was the pinnacle and now it’s just hopefully get top 4/5 every season to keep the dough rolling in.

The City of old would have been at the table for players like Neves or Vitinha. They had Rodri at the club whilst Fernandinho was there. They've become reactive rather than proactive and their spending in recent years has been more and more erratic.

I hope Gibbs-White proves me wrong, but they've used their resources appalling in recent years.

There are reasons to sign Morgan Gibbs White as he has energy, skilful and has helped Forest achieve not many points less then us despite playing with inferior players.

Those reasons centre around a reasonable price, possibly if he had a clause in his contract.

We’re talking major signing, big money that will pretty much guarantee first team starting or questions asked.

Makes no sense.

We wanted Wirtz and clearly he has chosen elsewhere, it happens, season has finished yet and we’re hopefully wasting any further time on it.

It never felt a done deal and Bayern always seemed favourites, so we should have a good list of alternatives lined up.

What if they want to go elsewhere, like Wirtz? There is a weird assumption in here as just go out and buy who we want. This isn’t a computer game.

Remember what all the experts were saying when we signed kdb there were also digs when we signed walker and I'm sure there was many more. Nobody knows how it will work out if we do sign him. Playing in a better team might take him to another level.

What I am trying to figure out in my head is if a midfield of Rodri, Reijnders, and MGW is good enough to win the Premier League as well as go toe to toe with Madrid for the Champions League. If it is then we have successfully replaced Kevin with the collective.

And that’s up to the management to sort out. One thing that is concrete us KDB is not being replaced.

There isn't a weird assumption at all.

If you want to be a serious club that is desperate to get back to winning titles, you go all out for the best you can get.

If you accept second or third best, you dont win the big prizes.

If that's what we have accepted now... let's just enjoy a top 4 battle every season ey. So much for ambition, eh.

I'm not saying they need to find a like for like replacement for KDB because I agree it's impossible. I just don't agree that this guy's a good signing. I think he's another Phillips/Nunes who's not good enough.

I'll back him if he comes, but I've seen nothing to suggest he'll help fill the creative void that Kev will leave.

We have reached the pinnacle with the treble and then doing 4 in a row,I think we will now be going through a phase of 4-5 years of just trying to compete to a certain level without actually realistically challenging for the 2 main trophies league and champions league..

at least 250k a week salary plus some signing on fee for a start, on 5-year deal thats about 75m. dont forget agent fee, we are high on agent fees list even when hardly any transfers so count 15-20m off to the hand of the agent at the minimum. some more if there is a renewal later on.

100m-ish fee to Forest.

almost 200m package over 5 years when he is 30 years old so huge decision if we renew with him summer 2028 or not, with a salary increase.

Pep likely not even be here by that time when that decision comes up, new manager might want better creators same as Pep didnt fancy Joe Hart etc.

so many risks with this transfer. way too similar to Grealish transfer who spent his career at mediocre or shit clubs but cost a fortune.

I totally can see Pep sticking MGW to winger role as not intelligent enough for him to be a midfielder.

This is providing we also sign Reijnders who looks quality. Kovacic is a good player who was woefully misused this season as a 6, where he quite frankly didnt have a clue how to position himself, hes been very good since pep started throwing bernardo in alongside him with more discipline. Nico and rodri as the 6 with MGW, Reijnders, kovacic, foden and potentially echeverri as the 8s and 10s is a good midfield. There isn't this wealth of absolute world class midfielders available at the moment. I stand by my opinion that MGW is talented enough to contribute in this city especially with rodri in behind him and potentially Reijnders beside him

I'm not sure what you want the club to do. It is clear we went after Wirtz, and he wants to stay in Germany. It isn't like they avoided Wirtz and settled right out of the gate. We are in a tough spot as elite talent is in short supply.

Agreed. But if it's indeed true that Wirtz chose Bayern over us, there's a difference between him being the best, and the best we can get. At that point, the best we can get may well be second best. So what do we do?

If Wirtz is not attainable, who is the (second) best we can get? Or do we not bother because second best won't win us the big prizes?

Neves 100% looked a shoe in but if we chased vitinha at that time you'd have a legion of people saying he was shit at wolves wtf, why we looking down, we need world class players
