Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Arsene Wenger suggested similar over a decade ago, thought it was a good idea then, think its a good idea now.

However it makes no difference the system used if the people operating it are incompetent/corrupt (delete depending on the amount of tinfoil you prefer to wear) so, in this instance, Henderson would still not be sent off.

VAR as a process worked on Saturday, the problem was the officials making the decision still got it wrong. I don't think you can legislate for that
Totally agree. I hadn’t thought of it like that. Great point.

It was a dig. We don't mind fans from rival clubs being on here (we're not RAWK). And we're not looking for said rival fans to blow smoke up our arses. Just be conscious of where you are.

He isn't wrong, though. The club didn't have a problem with Cann running the line in a league match, so they can't really grumble about being an AVAR in the Cup final. Would be very surprised if they are.

Anyway, Cann wasn't the problem, Gillett was. Or Attwell was, if Gillett offered him an OFR and he declined. Cann is just a fan gripe.

I doubt we or any other club scrutinise every officials history before games. Everybody assumes they would be professional and do their job regardless of past loyalties. In the league game nothing controversial happened so of course there was no questions asked.

Fast forward to the cup final and there WAS a huge controversial decision that was pivotal in Palace winning the game. Henderson prevented Haaland from scoring by cheating, pure and simple. He then went on to produce a match winning performance and Palace kept eleven men on the field. Such a controversial decision is the very reason var was introduced. To eliminate huge mistakes like this. They watched the footage numerous times and inexplicably came to the wrong decision. Nobody after watching that footage could come to any other conclusion that it was a red card offence. Nobody did. Well not the pundits, ex referee's, the media, the people who saw it. Nobody.....except the so called professionals being paid to actually do their fucking job without prejudice or favour. They deemed it wasn't. Palace kept eleven men on the field, a player who shouldn't then have been on that field then played a crucial part in the game and Palace won the cup.

As their decision was incomprehensible to every single person with a pair of eyes who saw it, of course questions will be asked. We then find out one of the officials responsible for making that decision has a huge history and ties to Crystal Palace. Something stinks and it cannot just be allowed to be brushed under the carpet. It was cheating, pure and simple and we as a club and fanbase were cheated.

Fair enough. I just think if the club questions anything it will be the decision, not the independence of the officials. You may he right, though.

Bez. You're slow to the party.
How about couple of seasons ago we drew Palace in the 4th round of the FA Cup.
Can you guess who was named as a lino in that game ?
It took City fans to point out he'd been a Palace player before the fuckwits withdrew him stating in was an admin error.
The strange thing is City didn't seem to be arsed.
TBF if it isn't going to cost city money I know they can't be arsed, media calling city out all the time nothing, the shit at instanbul

nothing, journos writing shit about us nothing, but the uefa charges and kicking us out of European football for 2 years then that's different throw money at it, premier league charges and throw millions, at defence, said it before couldn't care shit about fans but costing money

Two referees have done us over on several occasions Atwell and Anthony Taylor, club and fans should object to them being any part of our matches.
Didn't fergie get a ref not to do there games and also banned a journo from owed trafford and wouldn't let him write game reports
Journos write shit about us and then get invited for food and drink while writing shit

The ex Palace official is one of a group of officials that much is true. I believe two of them were on var, one of those being the ex Palace official. Before this decision I would have hoped any official would put any affiliation or loyalty aside and just impartially actually do the job they were being paid for. After this decision I'm questioning what that line of thinking . Both should never ever work in any capacity regarding football again it was such a shocking decision. There is no other conclusions to be they drawn except they came to that decision out of loyalty to Palace and/or a dislike for City. As @100 pints says Attwell along with Taylor has history with us. If he was advised to go to the monitor and didn't he should be sacked as well.

Look I was happy for Palace and their fans at the game and after it. Now back home and after reviewing all the footage properly, something I couldn't do at the game, I'm raging. We were cheated out of winning the fa cup pure and simple. People can put any reasons forward they like , that Palace defended well, we were too slow, didn't take our chances, blah blah blah. Nobody can tell me if Henderson was sent off and they had to play over seventy minutes with ten men and their reserve keeper we wouldn't have beaten them. We would. If we didn't I would praise Palace to the rafters and for me it would go down as one of the greatest fa cup wins in the competitions history. Now their win just leaves a nasty taste and it should come with an asterix. We were cheated.

We were cheated.

The whole of the football community wanted Palace to win and the biggest decision of the game was completely bottled. Yes, let’s say “bottled,” because I don’t want to say we were cheated.

That said, everyone says it should have been a red card, but nobody really cares, because the team everyone wanted to win won!

Success breeds jealousy and the amount of success City have had over the last decade plus has generated the kind of jealousy that runs to spite and vindictiveness. Sadly, we have to roll with it and keep moving forward, no matter how galling it is. No.One.Cares.

What winds me up about wrong VAR decisions is that ref watch or whatever it is on a Monday morning always says they are wrong.

Everyone to a man has said it was handball and a red card.

Will Howard Webb come out and apologise for the decision? He has done in the past but somehow I can't see us getting one.

Corrupt as fuck from the top to the bottom.

I absolutely concur with everything you have written here but I care. If the club don't make a complaint there should be recourse for the fans to do so. If it was Liverpool or United they would have issued a grovelling apology by now. Henderson should have walked 100% and absolutely nobody viewing that footage could come to any other decision. If there was no var I'd accept the ref missed it as it was so fast and he got away with one. Fair enough, annoying but understandable. There is var however and the correct outcome should have been applied, Henderson being sent off.

Still fuming about the handball decision. Can't stop thinking that if it was the other way around we would have seen mass outrage from all fans/pundits/journalists, but because it happened against City no one's arsed because the team they wanted to win won the cup. It's a fucking joke of a decision

Exactly. That's Liverpool and it's played on loop, it's on the ticker tape, questions to the FA/pigmol, questions in the House and of course the obligatory death threats (thankfully we're not that low).
Because it's us - nothing and now firmly filed under the carpet.
