Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

- ' In what he described as an emergency press conference to address criticism from his own base, Smotrich laid out the Netanyahu government’s genocidal agenda and explained why the appearance of allowing aid is necessary on a strategic level. “The [aid] that will enter Gaza in the coming days is the tiniest amount. A handful of bakeries that will hand out pita bread to people in public kitchens. People in Gaza will get a pita and a food plate, and that's it. Exactly what we are seeing in the videos: people standing in line and waiting to have someone serve them, with some soup plate,” Smotrich said.

“Truth be told, until the last of the hostages returns, we should also not let water into the Gaza Strip. But the reality is that if we do that, the world will force us to halt the war immediately, and to lose. It would be winning the battle, and losing the war. I'm committed to winning the war,” Smotrich declared. “We are disassembling Gaza, and leaving it as piles of rubble, with total destruction [which has] no precedent globally. And the world isn't stopping us. There are pressures. There are those who attack [us]; they are trying to [make us] stop; they are not succeeding. You know why they aren't succeeding? Because we are navigating [the campaign] responsibly and wisely, and that's how we'll continue to do [it]."

Smotrich said that the Israeli forces are initiating a campaign to force Palestinians into the south of Gaza “and from there, God willing, to third countries, as part of President Trump's plan. This is a change of the course of history—nothing less.” '

"In the early morning hours of May 5th, two large excavators and two bulldozers rolled over the hills of Masafer Yatta and into the village of Khalet a-Daba’. In under two hours, Israeli military forces demolished nine houses, six residential caves, 11 bathrooms, ten water tanks, seven water cisterns, four animal shelters, an electricity room, the majority of the village’s solar panels, and the community center. By the time the army left, only four structures remained; 90% of the village was in ruins. As the head of the settler South Hebron Hills Regional Council, Eliram Azulay, wrote on Facebook the following day, the “historic demolitions” are part of an attempt to achieve Israeli “sovereignty in the South Hebron Hills”—an intentional strategy to consolidate Israeli control over the West Bank by removing Palestinians from the rural regions known as Area C and annexing the territory to Israel."

Did he really say that?

At last, the British gov, in concert with France and Canada, has condemned Netanyahu’s overreach. A bit slow there, Mr. Starmer. You must keep up, the pressure, one statement is not enough.
Netanyahu’s response, which is to praise Trump’s nonsense, says it all
We should certainly sanction Israel and maybe take some direct action on food, if at all possible.

I’ll await the usual genocide deniers. Although, they probably rarely frequent this thread these days otherwise they’d be made to eat their own words.
There seems an utter desperation to call the Israeli actions genocide, presumably so that you can try to negate the holocaust defence? It's war, war is about killing people is it not? People die, lots of innocent people die, lots of women and children die. Lots of people get damaged for life. The 'winning' side usually kill more than the 'losing' side. That is what war is, killing. Death, death, death, kill, kill, kill, suffer, suffer, suffer. Are there people on the Israeli side who would eradicate every single Palestinian? Yes. Are there people on the Palestinian side who would eradicate every Jew. Yes. Both sides need to stop this nonsense. Are Hamas any better than Netanyahu? Would Israelis be sleeping safely in their beds if they did not have military superiority and the Palestinians had the much superior fire power? The only way forward is for BOTH sides to accept responsibility for their reprehensible views and behaviour and negotiate. The Israelis and Palestinians should both renounce violence as a means of settling this dispute and sit down and negotiate and keep sat down until a solution is met.

On this genocide nonsense. In 1945 the allies bombed Dresden, a city insignificent for the most part strategically, over 3 days they/we killed 25,000 Germans, including women and children. Think about that, that's 25,000 in THREE days of bombing with 1945 bombs. The Israelies have far greater fire power than the Allies did in 1945 but have somehow 'only' killed 55,000 in over a year and half of bombing.

The first paragraph sounds almost Trumpian in saying you could solve it in a day, if only...

The second paragraph: I don't recall even Bomber Harris wanting to evict the whole population of Germany.

Did you miss this?

What holocaust defence?

On the definition of genocide, I will leave that to the lawyers, not some bloke on the internet.

But, imho, this "war" was always, and still is, about ethnic cleansing and annexation.

Convince me otherwise.

Who the fuck have you been debating with who is trying to defend the holocaust? Almost like a rival football fan who will come up with any shite to defend their team no matter what.

If you look up the definition of genocide, it quite literally depicts what is happening in Palestine.

As for the Germans, come on. They were being bombed by and large to keep them contained to their homeland, not evict them based on their nationally or ethnicity. That’s one lazy, and irrelevant comparison.

The official German History now reckons the death toll at Dresden was no more than 15,000 and possibly a good deal less. They say the difference was Nazi propaganda at the time.
Still, 15000 is ‘plenty’.

The 55'000 he's quoting is very much on the light side. By all accounts it's now well over 200'000
