Bernardo Silva: “Something has to change. You learn who you can go to war with, first of all"

Why am I not suprised to see bullshit clickbaity headline is not what the actual report is.

Also who gives a flying f*** what Alan 500 goals but 1 trophy Shearer thinks
From what I've observed this season, I believe Shearer is right about this. Not only that, but if we fail to qualify for next season's CL, I think Pep will quit, which would create a real challenge for management, and just maybe, one last chance for Grealish. I never wanted Jack in the first place, on account of his partying lifestyle, but he hasn't been a disaster at City, just a disappointment, and he is far from alone in our squad for that.

a serous question, what is the meaning of go to war with somebody? Against or along with?
after reading the posts I'm quite sure there were at least three very different understandings of the phrase among people here.

Just an analogy for "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". He's saying it's all well and good when the team are winning but when things aren't as good, he's looking round and seeing who is up for the fight.

Maybe he means trying to get certain players motivated it's like going to war as they can't be bothered to put the effort in..

Hard disagree with that about Jack. He's a £100m signing who's our third highest earner. He was very good for four months in the treble season but since then has barely kicked a ball. That's entirely down to him and his lack of professionalism.

I think the biggest failure of the club has been the failure of the hierarchy to challenge Pep regarding the rebuild. The whole idea of having a strong board is to challenge and push the club forwards.

I can't fathom for the life of me how they sat comfortably in meetings with the manager and said that this squad was fine for the season. It featured four midfielders over thirty and a DM who's cried out for support and said he can't play that many games again.

To not replenish and refresh is madness. The squad been eroded in quality and quantity for years. Those problems become even more exacerbated when you have injuries and players approaching the latter end of their careers.

The fact that we've spent £180m in January on players who've barely played is a worryingly concern. We shouldn't be in a race for top five having spent that money in January.

I don't like Bernardo's comments because he's been one of our worst players this season and we've got two huge games left. It looks like there's no harmony in the squad at all.

We don't have a strong board in football terms. We have good, trustworthy, successful businessmen but which of them can challenge Soriano, Begiristain and Guardiola on football strategy?

It's a weakness.

Bring Mancini onto the board, I say. That will shake off some cobwebs :)

It usually means the same as when people say who they would like to be”in the trenches with them” ie people who you can rely on in difficult times.

So I think Bernardo is saying, of his fellow players, when the going gets tough there are some players that hide.

Quite clearly Savinho is one of them, absolute wimp. Does that thing I especially dislike of stops playing when he thinks he has been fouled & waits for the whistle.
Nowhere to be seen when the chips are down. Wouldn’t surprise me either if he’s referring to Haaland. Completely disappeared in the 4 finals he has “played” in. Hope not though, love the guy

Isn’t that what Viana is here to do? He came in two months early and will hopefully be starting to rustle a few feathers.

Feels like too many people got too comfortable in the last few years thinking success was inevitable.

They were bought for two reasons:
1. Stopgap due to injuries and Walker leaving. They fulfilled that purpose for Jan/Feb until players returned
2. For the future. None of the the players bought are anywhere near their prime. A player like Nico should have been bought 12 months earlier to help prevent the injury to Rodri

Haaland even if he goes missing at least gets into the physical battle

Exactly this. Only rival fans could think our expenditure in January was to improve the current squad as opposed to a quick stop gap fix but really for future development

A Liverpool fan I know said to me "you didn't spend 200m in Jan just to finish 5th".

Those signings were not for this season. Whatever we got out of them for this year was a bonus.

I honestly have faith in Pep, assuming he is staying, to rebuild a younger team for the future. Even if that takes a season or two. We have been spoiled by success on an unprecedented level but now we are at the beginning of a rebuilding process. That's what I think the spending in January was for. It is probably starting a season too late and Pep has admitted that. The man is allowed mistakes. Maybe it was for personal reasons and loyalty or just a misjudgement. Whatever it is we are not entitled to constant trophies, and maybe a small fallow period will bring back the hunger.

100% this. His constant moaning at the ref and waving his arms around when replays show he's not been touched is absolutely embarrassing for us. He needs to stop that asap
