It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

It wouldn't. I would have preferred one more midfielder on top of that but that's not a disaster window.
Getting multiple players who are not of top level is the reason the squad is in such a mess as it is. We need top players. The last thing we need is more ”good but not great” players we will be stuck with for years, especially if they are anything but a bargain.

You've just decided they are not top players or have any potential of being that without any proof. We've basically never signed a "top" player other than haaland, ever.

Of course. Until someone gives me a reason to consider said someone as a top player I will obviously assume that he is not. Instead of pretending that every player we are linked to is, based on nothing else than that I want them to be.

well I am sorry to break it to you but we are not real madrid galacticos and we are not signing 5 erling haalands this summer

Would we really need an additional midfielder with those acquisitions?

Gibbs-White, Reijnders, Nico G, Rodri, Phil, Kovacic, Probably Gundogan and Bernardo and that isn't including Rico or Nico O'Reilly.

It means we could field a large number of strong midfield combinations. Rodri/MGW/Reijnders, Rodri/Phil/Reijnders, Nico G/Reijnders/MGW. I won't sit and name them all, but there are a large number of combinations for us to work with.

I'm more in the camp that we need quality full-backs and a goal-scoring winger if we get those midfielders we spoke of.

Absolute myth. David Silva had been a main stay in the Spanish national team, had been a top player at Valencia had won the Euros and was just about to win the world cup when we signed him. Tevez was a top player. Aguero had been banging goals in at Ath. Madrid. Gundo was instrumental in the Dortmund team that won titles. Walker was one of the best RB in the league when we got him. Have we missed out on a few absolutely. However so has every club. The only two clubs who regularly hoover up ready made world class stars are Real and Barcelona. Bayern tend to get the top German talent.

That’s bollocks.
Yaya Toure, Aguero, D Silva and KDB were all better than Haaland when we signed them. They even got better as they played into the system..
I’d happily swap Haaland for any one of them. All fantastic players…

well, in my preferred outcome we also get rid of kovacic, gundogan and bernardo..

Haaland is easily the biggest fish we've lured in. Nonsense post.

There’s no doubt that this side has lost its creative spark. This is by far Pep’s worst City side from an attacking perspective since his first season with us.

However, I don’t think the issue it a current lack of creative quality, it’s more the system. Get two quality energetic full backs with pace and two mobile central midfielders and we’re good to go. I can easily see Savinho, Doku and Foden all hitting 10+ goals and 10+ assists each in the right set up.

Reinjders, Gibbs-White and Kerkez/Ait Nouri would be three brilliant additions. Get a top quality RB aswell and we’ll challenge for the title next year.

Agreed. I would add Bernardo was one of the best players in the French League, Gvardiol one of the best young defenders in the world, KDB was the best player in the Bundesliga, Marmoush one of the best, Yaya Toure world-class established, and many more if you think about it.

I assume you are a child..
‘Biggest fish…’ FFS
I'm not mate. But I can assume you've got a few years on me because you've quoted my reply twice.

Regardless, I've got bigger fish to fry than to pick on old geezers so god bless you sir.

Understandably, everyone is judging the board, manager, and players on this season. I accept that. I also understand that it is a season blighted by injury and illness. We went into it believing that we could get one more good year out of the senior players that had served us so well, and then we were caught out by our worst injury list in a decade, and probably a natural come-down after achieving all of our goals. Some of that could not have been predicted. Still, Pep has admitted that he made a mistake, and we move on. We accelerated the purchase of some of the continent's finest young talent, in Bah, and Khusanov, brought in the captain of Brazil U18 in Reis, and quality with Marmoush and Gonzalez. Now, we are in the market for others. We do not know who, and neither do the social media channels.

The players you mention are quality players with their clubs and in their league, but there are never any guarantees: are they available, is the price right, do they want to come, what about their character, can they do it in the Premier League? It is all a gamble, and none of it is a gimme.

I don't believe we need more than one or two, and I don't think we will buy the numbers that many here are demanding. I think the return of Rodri is pivotal, and a close-season of actually playing and training together rather than what we had last year.

We all want the same thing, we just might perceive how we get there differently.
I agree with this. I have a feeling we might see a minimal amount of incomings despite the need for creativity and legs in the middle of the park.

Those 4 signings in January may well have been accelerated from the summer, it’s a huge amount to add to the squad so I imagine they will all be featuring heavily next season.

Throw on top the return of Rodri and Bobb, the emergence of Nico O’Reilly, that’s 7 players we’ve not played a full 24/25 with ready to play a bigger part.

I’m sure someone has a squad list side by side but I’d be shocked if we weren’t close to two full squads still despite the likely outgoings of KDB, Stones, Grealish etc…

My take on it is to not expect too much and maybe be surprised by the close of the window. We don’t seem to act quickly in windows, January was painful despite how desperate we were for legs in the squad.

That’s not to say I don’t think we desperately need a rethink, new players etc… we definitely do, but I don’t think we are going to see a crazy influx.
