Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

I’ll await the usual genocide deniers. Although, they probably rarely frequent this thread these days otherwise they’d be made to eat their own words.
I don't want to discuss with them at any level the word genocide and the meaning(s) attached to it. I would like a good faith attempt to explain the ordinary meanings attached to:

1. Committed.
2. Total destruction.
3. No precedent.

"I'm committed to...total destruction [which has] no precedent globally. And the world isn't stopping us."

Netanyahu is worse than Putin.
Of course he is. I was arguing with folk on here who said he's not even a Tenth as bad last year. The Israeli regime are Evil. Absolutely fuckin Evil.

The **** Lammy has finally decided to lay into Israel. He fuckin knows his Government have been complicit in this and turning a blind eye to the Tens of thousands of children slaughtered.

To late.

The official German History now reckons the death toll at Dresden was no more than 15,000 and possibly a good deal less. They say the difference was Nazi propaganda at the time.
Still, 15000 is ‘plenty’.
Every site I have looked at suggests the figure is around 25,000. From Encyclopaedia Brittanica

It is thought that some 25,000–35,000 civilians died in Dresden in the air attacks, though some estimates are as high as 250,000, given the influx of undocumented refugees that had fled to Dresden from the Eastern Front. Most of the victims were women, children, and the elderly.

The point is not the number though, it's that no one fights a 'nice' war, it's not possible, no one goes 'one dead for you, one dead for us, one dead for you, one dead for us'. You basically kill and keep killing until the other side gives up or is eliminated. Usually that means killing more of them than they kill of you. It cannot possibly be fair. The only reasonable thing to do, in this case, where almost no one who fought in the original 1940s battles is still alive, is to stop the nonsense and negotiate. Anyone who get's in the way of the negotiations should be opposed by their own people.

Have you read the Geneva Conventions?

Have you read the Geneva Conventions?
No, I have not. Do you know of any war where the Geneva convention was followed to the letter? Does it say that only people who deserve to die can be killed but only killed 'nicely' by any chance? Israel and Palestine have both killed innocent people so good luck trying to convince someone that this is somehow good v evil? It's evil v evil at the moment, probably always has been, and unless BOTH sides change leadership it probably always will be. I think I'll stick to my original assessment thanks, you cannot have a nice war fought by nice people with a nice outcome.

Then I suggest you give them a read if you want to lecture the rest of us.

Fwiw, I don't remember good and evil being in the definitions. I'll go check again .....

Key moment today, Palastine supporters are protesting outside Dukinfield town hall.

I'm sure it will make all the difference, as if the council dont have enough to focus on.

Horrible bastards giving up their time to campaign in the Deputy Prime Ministers borough against kids being slaughtered.

You're not disproving the stereotype that Reform voters are thick and can't spell.

Your arguments on this issue are pitiful. Give it a rest.

I would be surprised if any accusations were directed at me, but I don't believe that condemnation of the actions of Netanyahu and the IDF have any connection with religious bigotry. I absolutely understand that this is a highly sensitive issue.

There is a humanitarian disaster taking place, however it is dressed. Investigation in to that has to be allowed to proceed. If multiple humanitarian organisations describe it as a genocide, committed by the state of Israel, I do not see that as antisemitic, and nor do the millions of Jewish people who are speaking out against what is happening. Equally, if I condemn the October 7th 2024 actions of HAMAS, I do not consider that to be anti-Arab, or Islamophobic.
