Florian Wirtz

Mad that you'd say VVD picked them over us, when there's video proof we didn't think he was worth the money.

Watch the Amazon doc from years ago

That was our first huge transfer mistake of the last few years. Followed by Rice, now Wirtz.

See, while it might be disappointing to miss out on a target, it's stuff like this that I don't get.

In the five years Laporte was at City, we won 11 major honours, including 5x Premier League titles, 2x FA Cups, 3x League Cups, and 1x European Cup. Van Dijk has been at Liverpool for seven years now and they've won six major honours, including the PL title this month - and that's with two bonus years over Laporte.

Also, are people forgetting that we literally just signed a lad who out-scored Wirtz in the Bundesliga while playing in a similar area of the pitch? A lad who some posters have already decided isn't good enough and needs shifting for Wirtz, who would presumably have needed shifting as well if he hadn't notched 10 goals and 10 assists by December?

If Marmoush had gone to Liverpool in January instead, and we were signing Wirtz now, we'd have had nothing but moaning on this forum for months about the impact Marmoush had made and that we'd missed out on a top target. Instead those same people are moaning that we're not splashing £200m on two players from the Bundesliga.

Envy doesn't look good on us.

Hype machine was also going haywire about Frenkie De Jong and Matthias De Ligt a few years back and no regrets about that now.

I'll be disappointed to miss out on Wirtz but it won't be the end of the world.

For everyone saying "just pay them" there's someone else saying "why the fuck did we spend £100m on Grealish?"

The true superstar is Pep. I'd rather have Pep and Gibbs White than Slot and Wirtz.

Fantastic signing for Liverpool. Likely to ensure they retain the league. Think we need to realise that there are always consequences for bad decisions. We had to spend 50m on Nico as we wasted 40m on Phillips. We had to spend 50m on two centre halves in Jan as we indulged a number of sick notes at centre half. We overpaid for Marmoush as we didn’t replace Alvarez in the summer when prices don’t have the premium. We let the midfield get old and lose any sell on value and have to replace them without getting anything back. The pay off for this rank bad decisions is we don’t have the the capacity to embrace deals like this one which come about occasionally.
These winter window deals will only look bad if they were done with only the immediate in mind. They appear to be longer term especially Khusanov and Reis. Marmoush’s quality is already obvious. Nico will flourish with more time/paired with Rodri. Wirtz going to Liverpool certainly stings but City started doing their business in January. They aren’t one to two players away at this point.

Has to be seen as a monumental fuck up from our recruitment team if he ends up at the dippers. Can accept him going to bayern, being German there's that underlining appeal that you sometimes cant fight against but there's no obvious reason why we should lose out to them.

it's the job of recruitment to convince him we are a much better prospect than them. If he goes there, we haven't and they've failed.

And why do we have the 2nd highest income in the game?

Because we were winning the title every year, and going deep in the CL including a win, attracting sponsors, more commercial income.

Now we should be spending some of that getting back to that level, not meekly giving up when rivals bid for players we want.

Let's be real, Liverpool are a much more attractive prospect right now. We can deny it but that would make us sound like the united rags. All this talk about Wirtz not wanting to leave Germany. The most ridiculous part is that we will still pay not that much less for MGW. This is the one that we will be looking back thinking, we fucked up. Like with a few others. That's how you let your standards drop.

£100m less is a lot of money, wages have to be considered in these deals.

Envy? More like stupidity I'm afraid.

He doesn’t want to play for us it is as simple as that. It’s not Pep’s fault, it’s not Viana’s fault, it’s not Txiki’s fault. He simply does not want to play for City.

There is quite a ridiculous level of dummies being spat out here, we’ve been turned down by umpteen world class players in the last few years and we’ve been absolutely fine. Rodri will batter this little sauerkraut muncher anyway.
