Florian Wirtz

Apologies as thread has moved so much I haven’t got time to play catch up, but I have to take my hat off to the scousers if they get this one over the line as never for one minute did I think their interest was real, plus I thought they’d be putting the big money aside for a forward like Isak.

My question, hysteria to one side, is how are the scousers beating us to this one? Assume we get top 5 on Sunday, then yes they are reigning champs but we are the previous 4 on trot, Pep is a bigger pull than Slot, Manchester is a better place than Liverpool, Wirtz would be taking up Kev’s mantle, surely we would be prepared to pay more wages than them etc etc.

I just don’t get it.

If I was Wirtz I’d join Liverpool over us. His mate Frimpong has just joined, they’re league champions and going off this season the football they play is way more appealing that what Peps served up these last 18 months.

Can’t even blame the club if it’s the players choice can we so don’t understand the crying by some.

Just hope we have a decent back up plan. Reijnders is a good start and I’m a fan of Gibbs White tbh, think he’s massively underrated by some on here. Add two new full backs who can actually run and provide some attacking threat and we’ll be alright.

Still a big blow though no getting away from that
Plus, who knows how long Pep is staying and who will follow him. All while Slot just got started.

Ah to be dining at this table rather then convincing myself that Lee Bradbury is the answer or that Peter Beardsley has still got it.

We push the boat out when we have to (Erling), if we had to break structure to get him we would have but for me finances offered aside he wants to play and he 100% has more chance of doing this in his preferred role at the Dippers. He will displace Elliott / MacAllister over there no problem, he's an upgrade on them for sure.

Is he an upgrade on the 2023/2024 player of the season Foden? I say no and not at £126 million. For me we're right to walk away.

Prob won’t go down well here but if most players (with no affiliation to either club) had a choice between Liverpool and city right now then most would choose Liverpool.

They are a bigger club than us and they are champions with a very good squad. It’s fine to admit that.

It wasnt financial why we couldn’t get this done the player simply didn’t want to join

There’s an awful lot of absolute rubbish on here today. If Wirtz prefers Liverpool there’s absolutely nothing the club can do. It’s disappointing, some will say embarrassing but nothing can be done. It happens.

If you want to criticise the board for falling to buy say Bruno Guimaraes last summer fair enough. Rodri’s injury wouldn’t have been so bad. We needed a 6/8 player but we didn’t pull the trigger.

On Wirtz seeing him go to Liverpool will sting as we lose KDB but if he picks Liverpool because of their style or whatever we have to suck it up.

We didn’t buy VVD and he while he greatly improved Liverpool, since he’s been there they’ve won the league twice, champions league, FA cup and league cup. However in the same period we’ve won the league 6 times, champions league, FA Cup twice and league cup 3 times.

Yeah agree but question is. Why have you allowed our squad to regress so badly. Why was there no foresight to avoid the current state were in where other english teams are a better choice than us

People haven't factored in that the PL is much harder to play in than the Bundesliga, especially in midfield.
