Grealish left out of the CWC squad (pg34)

Hope he sorts himself out. There was a brief period where he showed he can step up and be an effective member of a big team but something has clearly stopped him from maintaining that level.

I do like the guy though. Maybe being cast aside from City will change him but it’s only himself that can do that. I would guess he’s got the wrong “friends”.

City fans have always loved a scapegoat. Always. Big Joe's first spell in goal for us, Edghill, Sterling (as you say), Mahrez (the "FFS" wasn't just banter originally). This season? How long have you got? It's one of our less desirable traits as a fanbase.
Kolarov? Dzeko? Etc, etc.

In some ways he makes me think of the Gazza of the early nineties. Heart on his sleeve, not bashful about his weaknesses/vices. A good lad. Except that Gazza, despite winning virtually no trophies (I think maybe it was actually no trophies?) clearly established himself as one of the most naturally talented players of his generation.
He's obviously going, but could I just say that in most of his (few) appearances this season he's looked not bad to me — certainly as good as a number of players out on that pitch — and against Chelsea he was downright good.
Wish him the best, and hope he finds a club where he can settle. I genuinely do. Is it completely off the wall to think of him going back to Villa? Obviously at a greatly reduced price. It's been seen before.
Not a good comparison really as Gascoigne was 10x the player Grealish is.

I don’t doubt Grealish’s talent, but at this level it’s about consistency and mindset every single week, not just a purple patch in a treble-winning year.
I hope he finds somewhere he can just enjoy his football again. Good luck to him, he’s given us some great memories, even if it wasn’t quite the fairytale.

Early Big Joe was a joke but look how he transformed himself and became a magnificent goalkeeper, for that he won universal praise and rightly so.
Correct. Didn't we sign Keith MacRae because of Joe's ropey early form? When he didn't turn out as we'd hoped, Joe got a second chance (around '74, was it?) and he never looked back.

I’d say your time estimate was about right. MacRae played in the 1974 League Cup Final and was first choice keeper for the rest of that season and the following one up to Christmas but didn’t really feature much after that i.e. from 1975. onwards.

Big fall from grace for Jack

If he’s not putting a shift in and proving Pep wrong in training then tough

We need hungry players

I like Jack but surely this is the end at City
Maybe, maybe not. I think you much is read into these decisions sometimes, he could be ill, he could have suffered an injury, there could be all sorts of reasons.

But for me, he never quite fulfilled the potential. Doku gets a lot of criticism but he takes on players, gets balls in (even if there's nobody there to pick them up but that's not his fault), generally tired up two defenders, a factor we need to utilise better, and he's relatively consistent whereas Jack's best attribute seems to be winning the free kick, which as we all know isn't our attorney point especially now KDB has gone.

But he's not getting any better, if anything he's going backwards. You can bring Doku on and have a realistic expectation of him changing a game, you can't say that about Jack. I don't think he belive in himself enough (I know what that feels like), but people can only help you with that so much, there comes a point where you have to take it by the scruff if the neck or people start to give up on you and I think that's what's happening here.

At what point in our trajectory did supporting one of your own render Blues to be ‘fan boys’, given the quality of some of the shite we used to give our unwavering support to?

Success has turned some of our supporters into insufferable, entitled cunts.
I’m noticing quite a few who are slagging Jack off or are critical of those supporting him are user names I’ve never noticed before. Almost like they can’t wait to come out of the woodwork when things go wrong. As you say mate, insufferable cunts and I’m glad I’m not sat next to them at games.

I doubt they ever go to games mate.

Every fanbase is the same. We're not unique in this regard.

We haven't scapegoated Jack, and we certainly don't hate him. He's taking 300k a week off the club and he's effectively phoned it in for two full seasons; many of his omissions come down to his own off-field habits, that much should be obvious to everyone by now. The Viking gave an interview the other day about how his first duty should be to look after his body, that this dedication should be the least expected of you when you're being paid vast amounts of money to play a sport. If Jack had this attitude, it wouldn't be ending like this. The fans have every right to call this out and be disappointed.

Somebody said in a previous post he was a vanity project and I'd agree with that. It seemed an unusual transfer at the time, more a case of us sticking two fingers up at those that said we were incapable of securing the big names, and it's proven to be so. It's infuriating that the one time we have gone big it's ended so poorly.
That is true. Didn't Zirkzee get booed off when he was subbed at the swamp earlier this season? I guess we notice it more when it's our fans doing it.
