Season Summary - 2024/25

So City are the best team in the league since the turn of the year which coincides with the 2nd half of the season....
The league recovery has been brilliant since the W1 D2 L9 all comps disaster in November and December.

Since Jan 1st:

1st - Points
1st - Goals Scored
2nd - Goals conceded
1st - Goal Difference
1st - Wins

Obviously no where near our best but what a wonderful base to kick-on next season.

Pep deserves all the credit in the world for the turnround albeit very dogged at times particularly away from home.

If finishing trophiless but third in the Premier League a shit season, then I'm very pleased to be a City supporter.

I'm old enough to remember being 3-0 at half time against Bournemouth and letting them finish the game as a draw (this is always the 'misery' game that sticks in my mind from my seat in J Block).

I remember us suffering humiliation in the third flight while the Traffordians won everything - my mates at the time rubbed it in and then some.

Back then, finishing third in the top flight would have been a dream finish to any season. Let's not be all spoilt by our successes.
Previous historical lows should not be considered the barometer for this multi million pound squad, with the best manager in the world guiding them and world class training facilities/ back room support. This season has been wank and having once upon a time played in the 3rd tier doesn't mean we have to pretend it wasn't.

Good to finish 3rd after what has felt like a down year. I think this is a very important moment and it will be really interesting seeing who leaves alongside Kev & Walker, then more importantly who arrives.

Looking at the final stats (which I wish the club webpage would include) it is clear that this season we only have 1 player in the list of top PL scorers (Erling) and 1 in the assists (Kev with 7!) where the issue is. Hopefully next year Omar an be up there. But, for me we have had a real lack of goals and assists from our wingers. I really think we may see Savinho or Doku moved on especially if we are looking at Rodrygo cause we cannot rely on Erling to be our only scoring threat and without the assist king someone has to step up - or we change the way we utilise wide players and overlapping fullbacks.

Overall though we can now attract players who want CL. I hope we get the business done early.
2nd top scorers

If we’d conceded say ten fewer goals, the points we’d have gained from that would’ve made us champions

Injuries at be back and yes on occasion poor selections from Pep, mainly Rico imo, cost us dearly

Finished 3rd,a cup final, 10 game unbeaten run at the crucial stage, 2nd most wins , 2nd highest scorers , I’m taking as many positives as I can better season than the gunners the football has been dire so overall the main target has been achieved CL football.

Put too much faith in the players who took us to the 4 on the run, very understandable but in hindsight a mistake.

Injuries shot us in the foot big time, especially the Rodri one.

Foden’s form nosedived and I wonder if it will return.

De Bruyne bless him was definitely showing his age and it is right that he seeks pastures new.

We need two fullbacks desperately and those two wingers better shape up or they will have to go.

Gvardiol is not a fullback.

Poor pre-season and poor season with few redeeming features. Rodri’s injury was significant but the amber light the season before had been ignored, and while the final domestic table offers succour, the Champions League table does not. 4.5/10

We were due a down season after 4 in a row, a treble and our first CL.

Add Rodri’s absence, the main heads becoming too old at the same time, pure injuries and one or two being disinterested, there was no way we were going to reach anywhere near our usual levels.

To finish 3rd and reach the cup final in that context shows just how powerful this club has become.

Feels very much like the end of an era. Kev gone, Gundogan probably should, Walker too old, Stones can’t stay fit for 5 minutes, Grealish in the naughty corner, Ederson not arsed anymore.

Rebuild incoming.

Another version of a Pep team to look forward to.

We need that get this window spot on if we want to start a new era of success and have some new heroes to worship.

Fair fucks to the players. Season full of challenges, from injuries to squad issues to a lack of cohesion. Managing to knuckle down in the run-in and finish in third is an achievement, considering how bad we were. Hopefully they get some rest before the CWC and reset.

Ederson not arsed ? Not on today's evidence.

After four amazing years of winning the prem in consecutive seasons and also winning a trophy in every season since 16/17, we were always going to have a season like this one.

The one player we didn’t want to get injured got injured for the full season. Numerous of other injuries which led to an unprecedented amount of losses basically killed our season as the losses knocked all the confidence gained from the years gone by. Pep and his mrs splitting up, Foden impersonating the NBA stars from space jam when they got all their ability taken from them and the trusted old guard showing their age. Just a perfect storm of weirdness which contributed to a weird season.

Peps done well to steady the ship since the winter months and if we carry on with this form next season we will be up there. This season may have been a blessing and reignited the hunger in Pep and the players.

Last weeks loss against Palace was shit, if we had won that we could have bowed out with a smile on our faces. There’s no reason to be angry though as we qualified for the champions league and at the end of the day, we’ve been spoilt rotten for so many years. We don’t know how good we’ve had it.

On to the CWC next month, followed by the quick turnover into the new season. Out with the old, in with the new hopefully this summer. Also 8000 empty seats to look forward to next season. We’ll be fine blues.

Oh, just the 115 to get past this summer too.

I thought we were poor most of the season and whilst we got the wins in the last part of the season, we were not great.

Lots of thinking to do by Pep.
