It's Quiet the £250m return

MGW clearly will bring another dynamic into this team but people refuse to see it.

Is it because he’s English so will get labelled as another Grealish or Phillips when he could easily have a Stones or Walker like career here. Or is it that he plays for Forest?

I just don’t get it.

It’s probably because he’s 25, only had one very good season, and will cost around £70-80m. And whilst he could be very a useful squad player he isn’t going to massively improve the standard of our midfield. Or rather he won’t improve it to the level we have been used to with the likes of Silva, KDB, Yaya, Gareth Barry etc. could he be useful like Milner? Yes. But is that what we really need and want to spend so much on?

I’d say most people are being objective.

Yet many wanted us to spend £150m on Wirtz, using the same arguments and criteria?

I am comfortable enough at least to state MGW is winning the ball back for us far more than Wirtz would be capable of against low blocks.
I’m happy for us to spend £150m on Wirtz because I watch him and think ‘yeah, this guy will be one of the best players in the world.’

Personally, I watch MGW and think ‘yeah, this is one of the best creative midfielders England have produced in his generation’. But not really City level, I feel.

Rodri, Gibbs-White and Reinjdeers.

We are lucky we have Rodri!

Anyway if that’s the midfield pep is going for next season it seems we are shifting our style of play to be a bit more like klopp’s Liverpool? That’s not a bad thing. In fact if we have a fast winger (Doku) and an inside forward (Marmoush/rodrygo) we would be very similar and I can see that formation getting the best out of Haaland.

City's midfield level right now is so poor, bud?

Anyone thinking City's real level are Trebles and Quads 100-point seasons is destined for a lifetime of misery and disappointment.

The list of even links is pretty uninspiring

MGW - average at best
Wesley - complete unknown
Cambiaso - decent
Reingders - looks decent

The HUGE isssue is we have no creativity in any of that.

Our wingers dont create - poor crossing and no goal threat
We have very little creativity in central midfield - hence the sideways and backwards passing....
If we are going for attacking fullbacks we are going to have to get midfielders in there with Haaland as he will be on his own as our wide players dont attack the box/back post
Glad you said that…my thoughts too. I think we’ll let go of 5/4 and get 3/4 in….guess we’ll see.

So if we can get 2 good quality prem FBs in Livramento and Ait Nouri in addition to MGW and Reinjders we are cooking. As mentioned if we can get Wharton I'd be delighted but we maye be pushing the amount of players Pep wants in the squad (I'm assuming 21, 20 in game day squad and 3rd choice GK)

We need a plan b against a low block. Reijnders and Gibbs white are box crashers.hard to keep a low block when you’ve got players that will run into that box , that can cause all sorts of defensive problems.
all four CM's (MGW, Rodri, Reijnders & Nico) all love a long shot banger as well.. that'll help, just pepper the GK.

I feel that we can do better than Morgan Gibbs-White, not only because he averages a goal contribution every three and a half appearances, but also because I’ve watched him play at least a dozen times a season for the last five or six years.

If he signs for us I will be fully behind him, of course, and if he proves that I was wrong to doubt him I will be the first in line to fall at his feet to apologise. I’m just not convinced yet.
