Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1984 - (page 198)

I been away for a few days fishing. I'm just in time to nominate some more stuff and I can't believe that one of the best albums of the year isn't yet represented. Made in Keith's chateau in France during a month long rock n roll party, Exile on Main Street is the best they have done (I think).
Tumbling Dice - The Rolling Stones

Before anyone spoke of Cow Bells, we haver a great Album; Blue Oyster Cult
Then Came the Last Days of May - Blue Oyster Cult

A track from Paul Simons second studio album 'Paul Simon' this was a hit on both sides of the atlantic
Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon

There is no 1972 playlist without this on it!
Sylvia's Mother - Doctor Hook and the medicine show

They are such great albums I make no aplogy for nominating two more from Foxtrot and Can't buy a thrill.
Reelin in the years - Steely Dan
Watcher of the Skies - Genesis

I'll stop at that.

Gonna have to add Cities on Flame with Rock N Roll by Blue Oyster Cult too cos they finished their encore with it last night at the London Palladium, which I went straight from Craven cottage to .Almost 50 years since I first saw them and they are still a really good live band.

A lot of these picks are singles I really liked at the time or were very of the era.

I can still remember going and buying John I’m only Dancing from a shop in Wilmslow, which IIRC, was White & Swales, the Swales being you know who.

Tracks by Walsh, Frampton, Harvey, Winter & Heep are ones I became familiar with later.

Mouldy Old Dough?
Who played the guitar solo on that?

Black Sabbath Vol. 4 - Supernaut or Changes.
This album, fuelled by coke and booze addiction, represented an ambitious approach musically compared to their first three albums and I think it's their best.

Go with Stealers Wheel.
I had thought of them myself. Think Stuck in the middle, is a year defining song.

Oh and there has to be something from Deep Purple’s Made in Japan.

Highway Star features one of the great guitar solos.

Lazy has a great intro from Jon Lord.
Ok if we’re going with Made in Japan, then if I may throw in a live Rory from Europe ‘72.
End the show with Bullfrog Blues.

Think I've only nominated 2 so far so here's my final pair.

Firstly a bit of fusion, but whilst rock fusion was the preferred choice for many, Chick Corea was heading to South America. Corea was yet another Miles Davis alumni and this thread has really made me wonder what jazz would look like had Davis's parents tried to push him into becoming a doctor or lawyer or something. Anyway, though I'd like to nominate the single track side 2 of his Return to Forever album I will instead go for the title track. For those times when I want to pretend I'm not a northern European with a selection of overcoats.

Chick Corea - Return to Forever

I was going to go for a bit of space rock and as OB1 has already been at the Hawkwind I'll go for the short lived Khan.

Khan - Space Shanty

Just asking for clarity, am I adding all of these or just the ones seconded? Figured I'd ask first. I'm fine either way, just trying not to spend time doing and then undoing while on vacation if possible. TIA

A few extras if needed
....

‘Listen to the Music’ The Doobies Brothers
Someone finally got the Doobies from their intro album, so I'll only add 2 onto the end that no one has mentioned.

We're going to end with singer-songwriters on this Memorial Day in the US, which included a 16 mile bike ride to Fort Frederica where Britian and Spain faced off on the Georgia coast back in 1742. Fascinating remnants of a time gone past, but the flag was still flying today while the City vibes from yesterday were still going strong.

"It Never Rains In Southern California” - Albert Hammond, one of the best singer-songwriters of the 70s-90's, England's Albert Hammond was best known as a performer for this song.

"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" - Looking Glass, a great song to listen to On The Beach, as I did today.

Saw Chick in New Zealand, superb, great choice. :)
