Now we have this info then he doesn't have a leg to stand on, unfit to drive means he shouldn't be behind a wheel and loses any defence no matter how thug like the fans behaved.

Nobody even thought that was the case to begin with the posters treating it like a "told you so" moment were as wrong as the rest of us. Throw the book at him

A made a comment about how inept Merseyside Police are yesterday.

I have just watched a video on X of a Merseyside Police car left empty with it's doors open, a Liverpool fan gets in it, pretends to drive it, gets out of the Police car with a police officers hat on, walks around the Police car telling other Liverpool fans to get back, who are cheering, laughing, and filming him.

I tried to find the video on X again, but I couldn't find it.

I’m sure many of us have had this moments where you wake up and wish you could go back to yesterday before shit happened. Be a it a row with your partner, a booze-fuelled fuss in a pub or whatever.

Can you imagine waking up and instantly realising, because of the prison cell, that you got behind the wheel of a car whilst high on drugs, and then ended up mowing into and hurting 65 people, with the story being as big as it is?

What a total **** and it would be nice to learn his life, going forward, is going to be extremely unpleasant.

Pitifully stepped on coke in the main, and no available evidence he’s a football fan as yet.

We all assume things before evidence is presented, that's what this whole thread is pretty much. I've done it now. I expect he was celebrating and thought he'd be clever and make a quick exit by 'jibbing in' behind the ambulance. Bad decision. Clearly I'm guessing.

The City loving Liverpool Echo.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while unfit through drugs in connection with an incident in the city centre on Monday.

There we go then. He deserved more than a couple of kicks on his car then.
Problem is 'i assume' someone on drugs , getting their car battered and surrounded - probably won't help re having clarity re their next thoughts - Throw the book at him for sure, selfish driving under the influence.. but 'self policing'- might have led to more getting injured - would have been better if police were there and soon as he tried to reverse slowly was stopped and drug tested / alc tested ...like any normal DUI.. surely a better safer response

The police have no option but to release everything they can to calm the online public from spreading false information online. Never mind the fact it might prejudice the trial. Keeping the public from rioting seems to be the new way forwards, 17 fans still in hospital doing really well thankfully
We all know the “politics” after Southport pal . Police have played a blinder so far . Pity they wernt so forthcoming when our bus got destroyed live on tv in front of a worldwide audience !

Driver on drugs.
Probably same with some of the aggressive mob
Meanwhile the shit who caused the death of the 3 year old girl in Manchester was found to have done 20 lines of shit.

What a country.

I don't disagree to much, however what would you have done if you saw a reckless driver going into a packed crowd of people ? stand back and watch?

No other moving vehicles were attacked yesterday, was clear from the footage they were attacking the car as it was doing something wrong - yet i got heavily jumped on for raising that. oh well.

No idea what this bloke may or may not have taken but the use of cocaine is widespread in this country-and boy does it turn people into arrogant aggressive cunts.

Problem now is after any incident this will be the expected level of information release.

just out of curiosity, with the terminology used could it be Medical drugs rather than illegal? just seemed an odd term "Driving while unfit through drugs"

I agree, if he did drive into them at speed .... i don't know, but i heard the injuries were caused as he was surrounded, drug fked and panicked,,, the idiot... if that was the case - then the 'mob' didn't help at all!

Of these, 11 remain in hospital. All are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well, she says.

The above update is the most important and welcoming part of the press conference statements. I'm sure most people who saw the images initially would have likely thought a fatalities statement would have followed shortly.

With regards the driver.

I'm no legal eagle... Police confirmed arrested for both driving whilst under influence of drugs, [or above the prescribed limit] and attempted murder. If later charged for same offences would the drugs charge, [in general], make the prosecution of the attempted murder charge tougher, easier or does it not make any difference?

From what I believe the police need to 'prove' that the drivers actions could have resulted in death and in addition 'prove' an intention to kill. Would a failed drugs test enable the defence to point to this for his lack of control rather than a
'premeditated' action of someone not under the influence? Obviously the police in this actual case may have other undisclosed evidence to assist in the prosecution.

However, hypothetically I would be interested in views of the legally informed people on the forum?

Edited as arrested and not charged yet
