Incident at Liverpool Title Parade May 26th

I'm surprised you're using the "tailgate" term. The police never said that, it's the media's spin on it. The police said a flatbed truck that was blocking the street was moved to let an ambulance through. He got through while that truck was out of the way. None of us know how long that truck was moved for, how close to the ambulance he was, or whether he mistakenly assumed the road had been reopened.
ah-just found it

she says 'able to follow an ambulance' 'after the road block was temporarily lifted'

You are correct-I've made an assumption on the closeness but as you point out we don't know if he tailgated.

Yeah which is what has happened, to then say it is for attemoted murder but need extensions because you don't have enough of a case shows they were reaching for me.
nah you cant have an extension without evidence and the officers need to demonstrate to the Super and then a magistrate that they are making reasonable enqs to progress the investigation-they cant just go and say we've got bugger all on him.

I though the Asst Chief said that word in the press briefing?
In the briefing I saw, these were her exact words:
"It is believed the driver of the Ford Galaxy car involved in this incident was able to follow an ambulance onto Water Street after the roadblock was temporarily lifted so that the ambulance crew could attend to a member of the public who was having a suspected heart attack."

Maybe she used the term "tailgate" later on, but I haven't seen that. Happy to hold my hands up if I'm wrong.

I've found it on YT, she doesn't use the phrase at least in her opening statement-she says 'follow'-perhaps myself included have assumed it was following closely...

When we do a full road block we operate a type of 'lock' method. Barriers set across the road about two car lengths from the junction. At the junction we have a hard block ie a vehicle.
Barriers move to allow the vehicle/ ambulance in and put back as the vehicle moves to allow the vehicle/ ambulance through. The block vehicle moves just enough the allow the ambulance through than the block vehicle moves back immediately. It takes just seconds to do this, and the road block is never lifted as such

Usually the case in a multi-person casualty event.
Cheers but it was hardly an earthquake or rail crash.
Kind of like parade crowd figures then.
First it was being reported as 10's of thousands, then outlets like the beeb put it at 300,000. Now their propaganda machines have kicked in and it's an unfeasible and certainly unseen, 2 million.

Nah, nothing like that but you knew that anyway.

from the daily mail 'he's a nice guy' 'provoked by the mob' 'panicked'...

yeah, now imagine if he'd been brown.

he tailgated an ambulance.

he's been arrested on susp of driving whilst unfit through drugs-that means he displayed signs of being impaired by drugs...

he ploughed through dozens of people indiscriminately

and you want to make excuses for his behaviour?

Did I make excuses for his behaviour? I said I’ve no sympathy for him & his life is ruined.

Now if you want to make excuses for knobheads opening a door or smashing windows whilst a car is driving towards people slowly.

So take it back a step …..

If the car wasn’t there, there’s no accident he’s the main culprit & fucked, rightfully.

Next step, those knobs smashing the car made a bad situation worse.

& finally I didn’t bring race into it but I understand why they released his ethnicity because they didn’t want to make a bad situation worse with dicks jumping to conclusions around terrorist attacks. I would have just said it was a Liverpool supporter not terrorist related.

It’s standard protocol and good practice.

Was listening to the Newsagents podcast earlier. It had nothing to do with this incident; they were talking more broadly about drug laws (specifically cannabis).

They were discussing the case of a 17 year old whose car was rear-ended at some traffic lights. Both drivers were tested for drink and drugs. The 17 year old's came back positive for weed, but this was 4 days after he'd last consumed any. Obviously, we're taking his word for that, but if true, he clearly wouldn't still be impaired, yet he ultimately lost his licence for driving under the influence of drugs.

A lot of people have jumped to the conclusion that the driver in Liverpool was "off his head on coke," but if the above story is anything to go by, that might not necessarily be the case. Just another reason why we should wait to see what comes out in court.
Cannabis stays in/on your saliva for 24 hours.
A road side test done by the police only tests saliva. I think the Newsagent is like many today. Knows everything but none of it is true.
