Excellent again despite the red. Will be a big, big miss at the weekend. Still completely baffled by those that want rid of somebody who has been in our top 2 best players this season and has held the midfield together on his own.

I look forward to seeing him in his natural 8 role again alongside rodri, I don't see a better pairing or potential pairing than that.

Hopefully we sell him.

Absolutely no reason to take a red there.

I hope too

Brilliant player, hope he stays for a few more years to teach the new guys coming through (Nico, MGW and Reijnders) how to boss the midfield.

The duality of man.

He's a good player. More than happy to have him in the squad next season. He's easily been one of my our better players this season, although the bar isn't exactly high there.

Kovacic was put into a bind in our game v. Bournemouth. A shit pass puts a player though on goal late in the game and Kovacic pulls on the player in a clear red card situation....

Just curious - what do you think of Kovacic's foul?

Can't say I'm his biggest fan, but with him back in the side we immediately looked more organised and solid. He did what he needed to do with the red card last night, if he'd have held up his arms and let the Bournemouth player through it could have become a very nervy game. Fair play to him for taking one for the team.

bit of split going on i think - some see it as the necessary 'take one for the team' foul to ensure no goal is scored, others see it as too early in the game to make that foul and leave it to the keeper and see what happens.

Personally, on balance, i think he should have left it to the keeper/striker and taken the chance of a miss. ~25 mins with 10 men is hard, whilst 2-1 up with 11 men we're still in the ascendency. However, we do moan a bit about not taking out the man sometimes and so he acted a bit like it was the 80th, not the 67th. Personally i dont think it's a big deal, but perhaps he made the wrong decision.

Whilst this absolutely is Gvardiol's fault - it was a shite pass - i'm not sure Kovacic was even watching...

Regardless of if we keep him or not, he should just get the surgery now if this has the potential to be a recurring injury/something that can evolve into something worse. The novelty of the CWC and winning it has to take a backseat to getting our squad fit and firing come PL matchday 1.

Should. But won’t.

Think we should definitely keep this guy. Just been comparing his stats to our other midfielders and targets...

He's miles clear of Gundo, Silva, Nico, KDB and Reijnders this season in most aspects per 90.

Definite keep. Think he could do a good job with Rodri in midfield and someone like Cherki/Foden in front of him.

Only the blind can't see that. Dude has been fantastic.

An interesting few weeks. He's the only Croatian player I know where Man City (or any club) have had a bigger say (He missed some Nations League windows). But then he also played for Croatia (when he was on form and fit) and got injured just before our horror November/December.

He might not be 100% but maybe he can still play for Croatia, have surgery (if it is true) miss the CWC, 2 more match bans, and be back by September.

What he actually does will be very interesting...

City won't sell him.

Literally just turned 31, has plenty of years left.

Can easily play 6 in place of Rodri or as an 8 with Rodri.

Statistically, ranks extremely high in passing, pass %, progressive passes, tackles, with decent offensive contribution.

I see Rodri, Kova, Reijnders and Nico G being our options in making the core of our midfield.

I think he will play the CWC since it’s his only opportunity and then do surgery. Doubt he would start with Reijnders anyways + he has match bans left. O’Reilly can take his minutes at the start of the season

So give Croatia a helping hand to the World Cup (they are inter-generational weak at the moment) and need it. An opportunity to be a record breaker. Then get surgery.

I get the logic...

Up to him after...
