General Videogame Thread

As for me I'm happy with my laptop. Delving back into XCOM 2 for a bit of tactical turn based nonsense :)
A man of impeccable taste. I play on playstation but Xcom is very possibly my favourite gaming series. I still my winning legendary Ironman runs are some of the hardest things in gaming I've completed.

Well, the new PS5 arrived. Has been played on for hours by the daughter over the weekend and not a single lock up or freeze. I know plenty of people will buy refurbished and not have any issue, and I thought I could trust a name like Currys to do a decent job of identifying and fixing and issues before selling a refurb, but I guess not in every case.

Spoke to someone who knows a little about these things and he's suggested that it sounded like Currys had replaced the disk drive (it was also asking me occasionally to pair the drive with the console when turned on) and that could be why it was locking up, something I noticed the brand new console didn't even ask once during setup, and if there was some issue between the hardware and software it probably was resetting the registration mid play and confusing the console. I have no idea, just glad the new one works perfectly.

Could be decent. Released on June 10th

Won't be. Feels like a late ps2, early ps3 game with tarted up graphics. The idea of that may sound good from a nostalgic view but this looks like it plays like a 20 year old game too. Heard early preview sessions were very harsh on it.

Reckon it will be a 5-6/10 criticial flop that might have a small cult fanbase.

Glad it all got sorted for you pal and the daughter is off enjoying it. Great stuff

Finally managed to get a gold stakes win on every single deck in Balatro. And if that didn't take me long enough, now the real grind begins as i need to get a gold sticker for every joker for the 100% c++ completion.

I think I'm about 70 of the 150 total jokers deep so far just getting a gold win on all the decks so roughly halfway. I think my tactic for the other half is going to mainly be playing on the amalglyph deck for double tags every ante, save them until I hit a negative tag and then pile on as many random negatives as possible to get some of the less useful jokers. Only issue with that is if a lot of them are rentals, its going to cripple my bank spending money on jokers i dont even use every round which could very easily end me. i'll mix that tactic with playing on the easier chequered deck or ghost deck which give you a good start to snowball and could allow me to actively seek out and carry a specific useless joker and still win when I tick off a bulk of them and only need a few.

Long way to go yet but that platinum will be mine.

Most of that state of play wasnt for me but i'm buzzing for the Nioh 3 announcement. Massive soulslike fan and I think Nioh is actually the best of the lot including the from software games. Can't wait for it.

Everyone here console gamers, I take it?

I've been PC only since mid 360 days myself. Had PCs before but got to more of a hobby level around that time.
I have dipped in and out of pc gaming over the years. I play a wide range of games but with some genres, for example strategy, I find PC or laptop is usually an enhancement to the experience.

I couldn't bring myself to try football manager console edition, for example, when I have the full experience there on PC, and some games like Silent Hunter you just don't get at all on console.

That said, so many games are designed specifically for console nowadays that lots of the more popular games are probably a better experience on console.
