General Videogame Thread

Recently upgraded to Xbox Series X traded my old PC for it. Recently finished Elden Ring that was 10/10....just started the Shadow of Erdtree DLC unbelievably is even tougher than the base game.

Bought Kingdom Come Deliverance II heard really good things & Warhammer: Space Marine 2. I expect will take a while to finish these three. High on Life 2 am looking forward to the most the first one was brilliant

I was treated to a PS Portal and 12 months of PS premium for Christmas off the Mrs. Got to say it's a bloody great bit of kit. Started a new run of Skyrim on it and it looks like it was made yesterday. Quick test of Cyberpunk to see how it handled. Absolutely brilliant

I got a PS5 for Christmas which was unexpected. Didn't realise that some PS4 games carry over. This means I'll replay part 1 of the FF7 remake and then play part 2, also picked up Clair Obscur and Where Winds Meet (free to play). Like a kid in a sweet shop really, don't know where to start!

Expedition 33 is my game of the year. My favourite story since Ocarina of Time. Always check if the PS4 version of a game gets a free upgrade. Sometimes works out a lot cheaper.

Same for me on GOTY, absolutely fantastic game from the story and gameplay, to the music. I've seen a few people bash it but it mainly seems to be due to the fact that it's turn based and not a first person shooter, and if that's the requirement for some people then fine, but it shouldn't take away from the fact that Expedition 33 appealed to so many people and as a bonus really showed Square Enix what could have been if they'd have not been obsessed with moving FF into 'mainstream' audiences.

I've always held that the suggestion turn based is a relic of the days of slower computers, an outdated mechanic, or that gamers just want pew pew pew bang bang as complete tosh, otherwise chess wouldn't be a thing. I think the genre suffers a lot from the over cutsey anime associations, and Expedition 33 got it bang on the money as an alternative and proved there is an appetite for this mechanic.

Am just about to start Bye Sweet Carol after it was recommended to me, seems to be a little nightmares style game but mostly 2D art in the style of 80s/90s animation, with a dark twist.

We've just completed Split Fiction for a second time since it was released.

Great fun again. Such a good game. We'll do it again next Christmas break.

I am putting my free living gaming hours into Palworld at the moment. PC playing of course.

Probably about 100 hours since November? Xmas helps.

I've not played Fable previously. This is looking decent.

I have never touched Fable. I remember it being in competition in the early 2000s with World of Warcraft. I think Fable was quite ground breaking at the time as a single player RPG, but just could not compete with an MMORPG.

I think the earlier ones are on Games Pass so I may dip into them between now and autumn for when this is released, if indeed it sticks to its release date.

This Xbox only? Can't remember them ever being on PlayStation.

Currently on Act 3 of Clare Obscure Expedition 33 myself and wow what a game.

Dying Light beast up next.

ALL new first party Xbox games are now multi platform. The original Fable games were on The 360 only

I know everyone was raving about Expedition 33 but I just couldn't get into and I normally like turn based games. I just found the story well a bit boring and so melodramatic. Just didn't click with me.

My game of the year without doubt was Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Probably the best RPG I've played since Witcher 3. In fact I'm still playing it now as I've got all the DLC and started a fresh run

If you like turn based, I am guessing you have done Baldurs Gate 3?

Yeah is was a MS exclusive for a while and MS bought the developer.

But MS is moving away from the exclusive market and releasing everything everywhere they can now.

Yeah although I've never finished it. Furthest I've got is the end of act 2 so I've never been in to the city of Baldurs Gate!

It's a brilliant game but I just got a bit fatigued with it as that save up until act 2 took me 78 hours and I just lost a bit of interest. I'll go back to it at some point.

KCD2 though completely got me hooked, I've never felt fatigued by this game

I did 200 hours in BG3 and to be honest it is probably one of the best games ever made, however...It takes a hell of a lot of psyching yourself up to sit down and play. There is no passive playing in it.

UFO Enemy Unknown/X Com Terror From the Deep for the win on turn based :D
