David Beckham gets knighted (after being snubbed for years)! apparently

Who would want to be given the same award that Jimmy Savile and Cyril Smith were given?

Ohhh come on, he'll never actually use the title :)

I’m going to presume that he’s been nominated numerous times and was knocked back by the Queen.

Charlie obviously likes him more.

Like with every knighthood dished out, there are far more that are worthy of the title than him and there are loads that are less worthy too.

It’s a pretty meaningless system, so it’s hard to get too worked up about someone getting a title.

Finally Beckham has stopped being snubbed and overlooked for his Knighthood! Him and Victoria finally get to be called Lord and Lady Beckham and enjoy their £525m wealth! To be fair i think he just about deserves it more Booby Moore ever did!

Meanwhile Kevin Sinfield got a CBE for running 7 marathons in 7 days with to raise £77,777 (Burrows number), his gesture raised £1.2m. Since then he has ran 10 ultra marathons earning over £10m whilst grieving for his best mate, putting his career on hold and looking after Rob's family best he can!
Just 5% of honours go to the North of England. Rugby League has never had anyone knighted.

Captained England for over 5 years, Supports a number of charities and various projects -
Founding member of Malaria no more, charitable trust which provides wheelchairs to children in need and appointed as a UNICEF ambassador, has raised hundreds of thousands for NSPCC.

- Beckham has played a crucial role in UNICEF’s work to save and improve the lives of children. Key Highlights include:

  • In 2005, David Beckham helped launch an appeal and pack emergency supplies for children affected by the Tsunami
at UNICEF’s supply division in Copenhagen.
  • In 2008 David visited Sierra Leone to launch UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children report to focus global attention on
    dying before their fifth birthday.
  • In 2009 David visited South Africa to see UNICEF’s work with children and families living with HIV and AIDS
  • In 2011 David helped launch UNICEF UK’s appeal for the East African food crisis.
  • In 2012 David delivered an open letter with over 50 high profile signatories to UK Prime Minister David Cameron ahead of
a global hunger summit – helping to secure a commitment by world leaders to reduce child malnutrition by 2016.
  • David helped to launch UNICEF’s appeal for Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, in which 1.7 million children were displaced and
many lost their lives. David also travelled to the Philippines to meet children and families affected by the typhoon.
  • In 2014 David recorded a video message supporting UNICEF’s fight to beat Ebola, which was broadcast across
Sierra Leone, one of the worst-affected countries, reaching over 2 million people.
He has personally donated millions and his fund, the 7 Foundation, has raised millions more. He also donated his Paris Saint-Germain wages of about £1.5 million to a French children’s hospital.

has just become an ambassador for The King’s Foundation - which has education programmes and helps ensure young people have greater access to nature.
Plenty of less fortunate people selflessly sacrifice a whole lot more of their time, effort and a lager percentage of their money in relative terms helping other people without expecting anything in return.

He's just an attention seeking whore.

Don’t forget Beckham has been working diligently at this for years - he’s got a big press and publicity machine behind him. Anything he ever does for charity - you’ll know about it. He’s been oiling around the establishment, royals and now King Charles for ages. He’s worked the system and has got his prize.
It reminds me - my old boss got a CBE last year (**** of the British Empire ?)

I don't believe in the honours system as is but that has nothing to do with Beckham.

People have forever wanted wealth and have been self promoting. I think you may have a different opinion on Haaland for instance. My view is he is very motivated and done the absolute best with what he has, and he doesn't come across as a bad bloke tbh.

You may or may not have a dislike of him because he made his name at the scum but no way on God's earth is that not a major reasoning for this rather ott scorn directed at him. The thread is an embarrassment to rational and non biased thinking.

Not sure what is irrational about my post, my point was he's emblematic of some things I don't like about modern life. Haaland isn't relevant to my comments, I might not like various things Haaland is indicative of either and he's undoubtedly a beneficiary of the rise of celebrity culture and personal branding but my point was Beckham was a trailblazer, witting or otherwise, for the prevailing culture and that's why I don't have any time for him. If you are suggesting that the nature of wealth acquisition and self-promotion has always been thus I'd disagree with you but that's probably for a different thread.
