Cherki is one of those players that will get you off your seat. When the ball bounces in front of him, he is always going to smack it one. Him and Marmoush will have goal of the month/season wrapped up.

Only reservation about him or anyone from the French league, is the physicality of the PL. You are playing against super athletic specimens. Who are bigger and stronger than you, and they can play as well.

You often see these players tearing it up in foreign leagues (Antony) and they come to the PL and get brushed off the ball like they are children.
As stated above, and also from the French league, was the brilliant Bernardo, very similar style and you can’t hit what you can’t touch, he is a forward thinker, meaning he avoids such battles, he may take a few as is the norm but he’ll win on points predominantly….

His biggest task is conditioning, he isn’t use to the work rate pep commands but that will come with time on the coaching field; he gets up to speed on those expectations and we are talking about a serious player!

Can’t disagree with your observations and comments, however.. I would ask you to look at D Silva. Definitely not a physical specimen, not big or even quick. Not great in a tackle and not brilliant in the air. Didn’t score as much as he should have…
But…
Simply and utterly outstanding, arguably our best ever player.

For me,..magic in feet and brain, will always beat speed and stamina..I’ve seen enough already! It’s that f’kin obvious!?

Interestingly, and you’re bang on the money, this has been the same trick up the sleeve for nigh on 10 years yet the rest of the jacket is constantly ignored, the fact it works on our competitors, still, brings joy to the illusion (:

Wirtz is some player, be foolish to ignore but this in essence is his direct rival, one or the other yet markedly different in cost, and in gambling terms, no brainer, he’s a bonafide steal and the epitome of our model; margins for growth attached to his development plan, his contract is flexible, where wirtz at the same age, is fixed; there’s a consensus of financial ceilings for deals like his, they aren’t sustainable, mooted wages of 250-300k already, which we walked away from; comparably we could say Haaland but he was cheap as chips transfer wise, and the end goal on the renewal was justifiable in his first two years…

Cherki is a rinse and repeat approach, overly ignored because we aren’t arsed about murmurings of ‘rejection’ when every time we’ve done it, barring the odd anomaly, the proof on full display in our outcomes….

And in conclusion, he also has a snidey side Bernardo would be proud of, wirtz is yet to show that, which is essential in that position in the prem, he is a bit lavender, could be wrong but more than happy (:

Wirtz had a little nibble at Bernardo the other night. Felt very much like Bernardo had his City hat on going on the windup!

As for our business, I thought it telling Khaldoon said we have our first choice options and second choice options lined up. That was an open admission that we had done our due diligence and weren't putting all our eggs in one basket - exactly how a good club would operate. Wirtz was number one, Cherki number two but you'd anticipate we were discussing with both from the outset to ensure the club's position wasn't obvious.

He was a bit soft in his first season. But developed into the player he became. The season where he went full skin head, he properly went for it physically. Getting stuck into tackles, and jumping for headers. That would have been unheard of when he was in Spain.

When I think of quality, skilful players that have talent that doesn't translate to the PL. I think of Jesus Navas. He was on floor most of the time. Running with the ball, he could beat people, he had tricks and pace, and he could could pick out a perfect cross. But in a tackle, he was always second best.

Looking at the Palace team from the FA cup final. They were big guys. Physically strong, and athletic, they could cover the ground and they got tackles in. I see this contrast where natural talent is snuffed out by stronger, quicker players.
